not sure all of my posts should be there. do you want me to label songfight posts accordingly? many of those really have nothing to do with sf.

I see HInc's song-of-the-day posts are gone. Are SOTD posts not going to be a part of this?

Which I'm fine with, but we need more feeds! Should we go hunting for Songfighter feeds? Are we only going to add feeds we've been asked to add? Or feeds we've gotten permission for? Or maybe we should ask for forgiveness rather than permission?

There should at least be some info on the blog page for "Submit your feed here" that sends an email to the fightmaster.

Okay, I tagged the songfight posts on my lj, and you can get them using this link:

http://heuristicsinc.livejournal.com/da ... =songfight

Hope that works. I expanded the definition of songfight to "bands that I know from songfight, even if the song in question isn't" so e.g. Brad Sucks "Making Me Nervous" is tagged.

Also, this is my personal blog for HInc music news:

Okay, I posted a song from songfight and it showed up on the page... unfortunately I seem to have made a typo and put one too many quotes on a URL. I fixed it on the post, but it didn't mirror onto the sf page. How do these things work? Will it get that update automatically? Eventually?

Just started running wordpressmu on my server, but still figuring out the whole category thing... so I don't know if this is setup quite right. Still working out the kinks and such.

Y'know, I'm probably going to get abused for saying this, but I only vaguely know what an RSS feed is, and from what I do know, it's not something I'd ever use, or even think is very useful. I have an RSS reader in my browser, and it still requires clicking on the feeds to see what's new. What's wrong with just clicking bookmarks and seeing if your favorite sites have updated anything? Oh, right, it wastes bandwidth, and we all know bandwidth is a non-renewable resource. SAVE THE BANDWIDTH.

The point to RSS feeds is so that you can aggregate them in an aggregator, like Google Reader. You don't have to check the feeds individually - if you bookmark the feed in, say, Firefox, or subscribe to it in Google Reader or whatever, then it'll tell you which things have new items.

RSS is actually for multiple purposes, all useful:

- syndication/republication of content on other sites (like what songfight.net/blog does), often with domain-specific purposes (such as podcasting)

- aggregation of multiple content sources into a single stream of content (like what google reader does)

- update notification (live bookmarks, etc.)

Pretty much all my Web browsing starts out from Google Reader these days. There's only a few sites I check manually, and they all have more or less regular update schedules.

Basically, what you just said is "I am a dork." :D

If RSS feeds think they're so tough, why won't they fight me? I'll tell you why- because they're just scared little wimps, that's why.

You shouldn't anthropomorphize Internet publication microformats. They really hate that.

Are people still looking at this? I have a Songfight category on my song blog now.

I completely forgot about this. It would be cool if there were links to this and the wiki on the home page, or at least on songfight.net/, and not just in old threads on the forums...
