Just to be clear -- (on the very off chance that anyone 'round here hasn't seen me flash my pinko underpants)
"OMG! National Health care? It's sooooo uncivilized!"
That is not MY feeling on the issue of national health care. Since I work in the health care industry I have a vested interest in fixing what I see as a broken system. Since many wealthy idiots 'round here insist that nationalized health care would spell the end of quality of care for the US, It's always good to hear that the system in more civilized countries works splendidly.
I encourage all the young / uninsured Songfighters in the US to at least get their hands on a basic, high-deductible, major medical "in case something terrible happens" kind of insurance plan. You'll pay out of pocket for your routine stuff, but if, god forbid, something goes awry, you'll be able to staunch the wallet hemmorage. The premiums for these types of plans are usually low-ish, although it's admittedly been a while since I've researched them.
An acquaintance of mine contracted cancer while uninsured in the US. It was truly awful because:
A. He had cancer
B. He had to pay out of pocket for all his treatment
C. It will be very hard for him to ever get insured again.
Oh, and in answer to the QOTD -- I do have health insurance -- but I'm young and healthy and never had to put it to much of a test.
