That's because girls are made of sugar and spice and everything nice, whereas boys are made of boners. :P

Good, good. F'n Wustah. The only good thing about it is that club that's a diner: Ralph's Diner.
Hey, me mum's from Worcester. So I owe my eventually finding my SO ultimately to Worcester for ever making me happen. But, now that I think about it, it was my mom's decision to get the hell out of Worcester that took her to Boston to become a nurse, only to volunteer to be a camp nurse in PA one summer where she met my dad.

F'n Wustah, indeed.

Saw a couple good shows at Ralph's. The Mighty Mighty Bosstones played small clubs in Worcester at the time, but I don't remember if I saw 'em at Ralph's.

We met while both working on the locked ward of a psychiatric hospital. She was/is a nurse, I was/am a goon, though not working as one anymore. Just a regular goon. Falling in love in a sea of madness and insanity, alcoholics, drug addicts and the mentally retarded as well. Cue the Streisand...well, let's not get carried away.

QotD: I was stopped at a red light, and she came over to my car and tapped on my window. I rolled it down, and we negotiated price. Now she's with me forever. In my trunk.

It's a really long story, so read it if you want to....

It was 1996. I was in a really bad relationship with my high school "sweetheart". We both moved to Santa Cruz to attend UCSC. He promptly decided he wanted nothing to do with me, but he also thought he still "possessed" me and would stalk me, then come to my crappy basement apartment in the middle of the night and yell at me. He even hit me a few times.

Phil had moved to Santa Cruz with his girlfriend to get away from the cold of Minnesota. His girlfriend treated him like shit, but she was all he had and they lived together, so he needed her income to help pay the rent for their crappy apartment in the beach flats by the boardwalk.

I worked at the Del Mar movie theater on Pacific Garden Mall (the main drag downtown). Phil worked at the pizza place a few doors down. I used to go into Pizza My Heart every day, and the guys would refill my Diet Coke for free. Phil edged them all out of the picture by giving me free pizza when ever I wanted it. Slice of cheese. This was also Santa Cruz, so he would often offer to smoke me out to get me through the late show. We used to hang out at the theater and watch movies and talk and laugh.

I used to wear this one dress, that, when I stood in the doorway of Pizza My Heart, he could see right through. He would flirt with me all the time and his line everyday was "what color are your underwear?" I would sometimes show him just the color of the sting of my string bikini. He would go wild...

One day, after much flirting and free pizza for me and movies and underwear teases for him, we went behind the theater (on April 7th, 1996) and made out. A few days later he told me come over to his apartment while his girlfriend was at work. We promptly got down to business. See Abominominous' Save a Pony From the Glue Factory for reference to this story. Anyway, I came over to his place a few more times while his girlfriend was there and she didn't like that at all(and I don't blame her!). I, in the meantime had dumped my "boyfriend" (April 14, 1996 - my birthday). Phil's girlfriend kicked him out and he moved into a roommate situation in a house not too far from where I lived. My living situation at the house where I was living was weird and I had moved my stuff up to the creepy attic. Needless to say, I never once slept up there because I would climb into Phil's bedroom window every night.
We talked and talked for hours, every minute we were together (and not having sex!) There was also a lot of weed and drinking involved.

One day, while I was supposed to be in class, we slow danced in a deserted Burger King, wearing those cardboard crowns, with the names "Darla" and "Bo-Dean" (Phil had written the names on in black Sharpie - we still have those crowns). That sealed the deal for me. It was romantic! He proposed (on a whim, with no ring) in the parking lot of a gas station on Soquel that same day and I said yes. He asked me to move with him to Minneapolis and I said yes. I dropped out of school and we moved in August, right before the new quarter was about to start.

He proposed to me again a few years later with a real ring and we got married exactly three years from the day we first kissed (April 7, 1999).

I hear Rabid on his fancy gizmo playing the theme to One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest.

So really, that's how you met your wife? That's crazy. :P

I kind of glossed over a lot of the above, so feel free to do the same, but I'm going to exercise my god-given right to ramble:

Allyson and I went to college together. She was two years ahead of me, but we had a ton of mutual friends. Even so, it took us most of a semester before we met, at a Hillel party. The group was playing drinking games and such, and, though the details are a bit fuzzy, Allyson wound up flashing me at one point (she had a bra on, but I sure didn't mind).

She had a boyfriend then. We ran into each other a lot after that (you know how when you learn a new word, you start seeing it everywhere?), and there was a whole lot of "Hey, have you two met?" often followed by a lot of "Oh yeah, hey, good to see you again." Et cetera et cetera.

A couple of months later, we met at another party at Hillel, and she was upset because hey boy had been supposed to come for a visit, but his car had broken down. She was a bit tipsy, and propositioned me a few times, and never really did make clear how serious she was being. It drove me nuts.

A few weeks later, her boyfriend broke up with her, rather abruptly. I'd been through the same thing less than a year prior, what with the no-warning thing, so I made sure to check in on her a lot and make sure she was okay.

A month later, as she says, she just woke up and realized she liked me. I pretty much always liked her, so the flirtation didn't take long. The rest is history.

Ok there are a few other things good about Worcester besides Ralph's, I amend my statement. My sister got a nursing degree there, Roymond was born there, and Jimmy T met his wife there. Maybe a few more things...but the city, itself...well...if you know, you know. ;-)

I almost forgot the really fun part!

DRC: Funny that the QotD is what it is, because, as I've mentioned elsewhere on the board, my significant other and I are engaged to be married next year. It's exciting stuff, and today (well, yesterday, now, but December 20th, the day this thread was created for). we went to Bed, Bath, & Beyond to register. Never thought I'd see the day I'd get excited about place settings, but there it is. Yay.
