HA! Good eye you bloody roo wanker. It IS a cricket ball, but it was the closest thing I could find to a diamond encrusted baseball. I didn't think anyone would notice, but I forgot that you're the master of trivia.

There is nothing trivial about knowing the correct way to grip the seam.

BTW - if we want to get trivial - where is that photo from? My guess is it is Indian in origin. Bollywood probably. A special present for Muttiah Muralitharan or Shane Warne maybe?

Well, my guess of where it came from was right - even the Bollywood connection - further googling revealed: "The lady weighing this one up is Bollywood actress Mahima Chaudhary."

Couldn't find who actually won the ball though. It was supposed to be a prize for the best Indian cricketer at the 2007 World Cup (that is like the Baseball 'World Series' - except there are actually 16 different countries playing*, and it has an estimated audience of some 2 billion people ). Considering India were beaten by Bangladesh and didn't even make the semi-finals - it was probably melted down and not given to anybody.

*actually 27 different countries - but 12 Carribean nations or territories play together as the "West Indies"

Hope this is all helping you Ross

1 - I like the Diamonds Are Forever themes, the one with the field the best. Can't help but hear the Bond theme, though.

2 - The 'in-swinger' looks like more a slider pitch in baseball than it does a curveball.

3 - I like baseball and golf, so I guess that I'm double boring. Sounds about right. sniff :(

4 - That jewel encrusted ball makes me want to toss it in the air and then take a swing for the fences. Maybe with a cricket bat. What a show it'd make, exploding in the sun.

I wish all base ball players were dead, like in that movie with Tony Danza

I'd video tape it with 10 cams 360 degrees all the way around and edit it in slow motion and dub in a twinkling sound as the burst of sparkles shimmer in the sun. I'd slow it down SO much, that It'd take 5 minutes for all the diamonds to hit the ground. I'd do some of those matrix shots on individual diamonds with the 360 degree thing real close up. Zoom in on a diamond, freeze it, pan all the way around it, then set back in motion.

I figure it will only cost around:
Diamond encrusted cricket ball = $68,500
Ten digital video tapes = $20
Paco at bat = pizza and a pitcher of beer
Destroying a $68,500 cricket ball = priceless

...yeah, I know. But it's raining here today and that gets me teh thinkin' too much.
