Yeah, I'm expecting to mainly use it for online multiplayer. Here's hoping I can just download someone's "save file" that has everything unlocked. That worked well with Melee :-).

Yeah, unlocking is a pain in the ass. I just want to unlock Snake, damnit.

Special Brawl > set to Stamina and Flower heads > set CPU opponent to 1 hp > press Start a bunch of times

For Snake, 15 times on Shadow Moses does it.

p.s. - I changed my name to Kizo on WFC to prevent confusion in a different (larger) circle of friends, so if you see Kizo, yeah. That's me. Play.

Doesn't everyone's name just appear as how the other person added them to their friends list?

Not after they add you back. You were Fluff until you added me back.

I'm big on Ike right now. Man that guy's intense.

Makes sense! I noticed your "Comment" line is empty right now. If you put your other alias(es) in the Comment field, that would probably help us out. Worked well for us and some of our friends.

I like Pikachu and Lucas the most, sometimes Mario. But I'm happy to lose fights while exploring the others. Jigglypuff and Mr. Game & Watch are pure fun when handicap is Auto.

I really miss being Donkey Kong and carrying people over the edge with me though. Boo hoo :(.

So what's the point to having to enter a name when you add the friend code?

I am pretty unimpressed with the way Nintendo has handled friend functionality to begin with. XBox and PS3 make a lot more sense, by having the system-wide registry (not to mention multiple user profiles).

I almost think it's better that Nintendo sucks at online stuff - maybe people will start playing games with their friends in the room again. There's not enough interaction promoted in the industry anymore, and if Nintendo can get people playing in the same room again (even if they don't mean to), I'm happy.

Has anybody made anything worth noting with the level creator?

I'm guessing the pre-name thing is just to keep track of who you registered so you can look back and say "Fluffy, I added you days ago, but you didn't add me yet". Hypothetically.

Yeah, I don't get why there's one number for the Wii messaging itself, and separate numbers for the WFC games. It wasn't fun for DS games, and it's not fun here. I can *kind of* understand why they'd do it for DS games (they didn't have WFC at the DS launch, and there probably isn't much space on the unit itself to store contact info). But it feels like Nintendo just said "oh, uh.. we'll just do the same thing on the Wii that we did with the DS". The only reason I give them a pass is because they don't charge a subscription fee yet.

This game gives me a terrible headache.

PSN doesn't charge a subscription fee either. Also, there's no reason the friend codes need to be stored on the system. Clearly there's some server-side component keeping track of when people add each other.

They're intentionally making it as difficult as possible to interact with others. They're super-paranoid about the online experience being inappropriate for kids. I'm not saying it's more convenient or anything (I've seen you guys online several times and wished I could invite you to a game, even), but it's not an oversight.

...makes you wonder why they let you join Friend X, and see names/messages from friends of X who are not friends of you.

I'll have my Wii friend number up later when I get home, but I got it online during lunch today.

My housemate comes home from work last night. She says "I brought home milk. And oh, I also bought Super Smash Brothers". Holy shit. Quite the surprise as we weren't gonna pick up the game yet.

Yeah, sounds about right. I've had the most fun with it during parties with people who aren't all obsessive about it, but the lack of selection has been frustrating. And I just can't bring myself to play it in single player enough to unlock all the supposedly-fun stuff.

I just unlocked Jigglypuff, Toon Link and Wolf last night with a cheap technique that I can't believe I didn't think of sooner.

1. Select group brawl.
2. Change it from a timed game to 'stock' mode with 1 life per player.
3. Start the brawl, and immediately fall to your death.
4. Repeat

This brings up your fight count very quickly. Keep bringing up your fight count and the unlockable characters will continue to challenge you. Defeat each one to make them playable. Wolf will challenge you after 450 fights, and he should be the last one to beat using this method.

ROCK!
