I never ran them stereo. I had my mono Sunn head before I could afford my Marshall head and 4X12 cabs, so I lugged those 6X10 refrigerators from gig to gig for about a year. Even though they had 10" speakers, the bass was great because they have bass ports on the bottom, so the lows are deep as f**k. The Sunn equipment went into storage, after I bought my Marshall stack. They're at a friends body shop where we practice.

I sold my Marshall stuff in a financial pinch years later and never replaced it. I've run Carvin 4X12 cabs ever since.

Of all my equipment, this string is where I get my sound. The POD now replaces about 10 different rack, stomp boxes, gates, etc etc.
POD-XTL>Peavey RockMaster tube Pre amp>Sunn 100 watt head>Carvin 4X12 cabinets.

For studio:
POD-XTL>Peavey RockMaster tube Pre amp>PreSonus FireBox>Cubase.

knowing you use a POD will make it much easier to review your future entries, thanks.

Well call me gran'pa! Actually, I have a POD as well, but typically use it to fill in holes or learn parts. POD into pre-amp, though? I wondered how you got your sound as I could at least tell that it wasn't straight-up POD. But holy crap, you guys must be loud when you play!

I was being sarcastic, I do mic my cabs. I just have my own sound saved as a pre set on my XTL.
As far as the POD to a pre amp, it has a line level control for going direct or to a pre amp, etc.

So, I'm still trying to understand - (never been much of a gear-head) In a previous post, I think it was Ken who said not a good idea to go from one amp to another. But you go from a Tube preamp to your sunn head, isn't a preamp and amp? How are they different?

A pre amp is a low level amp, so it's ok. But depending on your model of Sunn head, it should have loop in/outs on the back, so you plug your guitar in the front of your Sunn as you normally do, but loop your other components in the back.
I used to plug my guitar into my pre amp, and my pre amp into my head, then loop my FX. But now it's in the chain I listed above.
