Bring him along, man! What's a better birthday present than a Florida vacation?

Psst. I will be roadtripping down to Florida at some point during August with a buddy of mine. I'll have a big SUV and my guitar with me.

Just poking in to say so ;)

While I understand son's birthday an' all, BZL does make a good point. Clearwater is less than an hour from my apartment and is THE beach. (There are several beaches over there, but my point is that its THE beach)

Also note that Orlando is less than a two hour drive from here. Disney, Universal, MGM Studios, all the other touristy stuff. (including the worlds biggest McDonalds! Which isn't all that big actually) All about an hour and a half away down I-4 from Tampa. Just throwin' it out there, no pressure at all.

No offence Hobbo - but that is tuning me off slightly. Tampa really just sounds like Brisbane with funny accents.

BUT

I'm still an outside chance

Yeah, between that and the weather we've discussed, Tampa is a lot like Brisbane. (in fact WlKlPEDlA files the weather under the same type) I did some reading on Brisbane just now. Ya'll weather is just a little warmer on average than here, but not by much. Points I noticed is that while Tampa has brutal summers, it has never broke 100 (F, obviously, and it has been 99) but ya'll have a record of 110. Also, we dip under freezing at least once a year where ya'll have only once before.

Brisbane is considerably bigger than Tampa. Tampa's population (within the city limits) is something like 400,000 and change. However, most people think of Tampa as just part of the region known as 'Tampa Bay' and it encompasses several cities. The population between these two counties is roughly 2 million.

And - just down the road we have The Gold Coast - Australia's Orlando and Anaheim all wrapped up in one - with DreamWorld, Warner Brothers Movie World, Sea World, Wet and Wild, and more mini-golf courses than you can poke a stick at. Oh... and lots of dirty ladies in skimpy clothes.

That's all swell, Ray, but do you have any Hoblits, BJams, Oatseys, or Pacos? Or even a whiff of Octothorpe?

Clearwater, the third but not forgotten home of Scientology

Yeah, let's not take a road trip there. I'll maybe come to Tampa, but it's a shame the porn capital wasn't enough of a draw, given that I live there.

I wasn't sure there was still a big enough call for the event to be held here yet. This topic was buried for a little while.

However, based on the little info that is here, I can safely say 15-17th it is.

Unless anybody protests that, I will start making potential arrangements for that weekend.

I'm heading down even if I just end up watching. I don't care to sing, I understand if people don't want to hear my songs, but I would love to sit in as a band member. From best to worst I offer bass, guitar, lame drumming, simple triad chords on the keys. Nothing too crazy or complicated, and I just may be the guy you need. Gimme a holler here or PM. Come on down people, don't be discouraged by my presence! I won't bother anybody, but I just may buy you a beer! :)

P.S. - I'm not boo-hooing here, I think I'm pretty easy going.

I'm sure you are welcome to play yo. Most songfight artists who do usually play a set. I sat out one year but thats because I have played plenty my share.

While this is in fact officially a go. I'm noticing that this event is clearly going to be a smaller affair this year. Maybe we will knock it down to a Saturday type festival?

Go out to Ybor City Friday night, get to know each other, have the Saturday event. (Maybe start it at 2 or 3pm) Go out again?

I'm not counting out it being both Friday & Saturday nights, I'm just trying to feel it out here. In the past it moved to a two day event due to the volume of performances... maybe this year we will scale back?

Sounds good to me. If it looks like it's going to pick up then adjust as needed, but less craziness for you sounds good, Hoblit. Well, maybe less show craziness. :)

I updated the first post to include the equipment situation.

I will start working on a web page for this event and to consolidate information on the event specifically. I will then add a link to the first post for easy navigation.

Spud: I'd love for you to either host the site or negotiate with me on how we go about setting this site up. Especially that dynamic information form. Also, thanks for the link on the front page! I do appreciate it.

There are inevitably collaborations and I'll schedule times and places to rehearse. I'm open to suggestions on how we will go about organizing this type of thing here.
