True. I just meant to say that there may be other ways of meeting the challenge. I guess we didn't anticipate people having big technological hurdles to overcome for this challenge, but hey, that just makes it more fun, right? ...?obscurity wrote:I'm betting the AW1600 doesn't have a built-in email client

Re: Nur Ein III- Round 2
I have a similar recorder, with an extra degree of difficulty because the CD writer doesn't work anymore, so getting individual tracks off the machine is a problem. Everything is across the analog i/o...
Keep in mind that the backwards recording doesn't necessarily have to be sync'd to the forward recording at all... or it might be something you could do AFTER you finish mixing, with an edit to the audio file. On Paul Simon's "You Can Call Me Al," there's a bass riff that plays forward, then backward - I'm not sure how they did it, but it probably could have been done in post-production. The bass player was, of course, annoyed because then he had to learn how to play it backwards for live shows.
Anyway... there are all sorts of ways to include some backwards content in a song...

Thanks for the advice guys. I figure it's just going to suck this week for me though. Good luck to KA - have you tried the usb connector? Or does your model not have one?

I'm no guitar player, but doesn't the sound come out backwards when you play it that way?adamadamant wrote:I would do it but how would I prove to the judges that I actually played it backwards?

Use of backwards recording?

Re: Nur Ein III- Round 2
The challenge has me attempting some new recording techniques, and I am LOVING the results so far.
I think it's safe to say that I have never created a song quite like this.
ROCK!

My song this week has more chords in it than I have ever used before.

Re: Nur Ein III- Round 2
Almost finished. A final mix tomorrow and it should be sorted.
I'll be the first to admit that my attempt at last weeks crescendo was pretty pissweak - but I think I've covered the challenge this time. I got backwards bass and backwards guitar and backward vocals - there's backwards gear all over the place.
!fun is backwards Recording

i'm going to hopefully overdub a handful of lines of mine, and then be done. i like my lyrics (for once), but every time I listen to the song with fresh ears, I think "what in tarnation!"

I'm pretty much done now, I just have the somewhat eternal task of trying to get a good vocal take. Should be good though.

Shipped. Maybe a bit light on the "prominent" part of the challenge, but it's what I got. No objection at all if a few folks decide to flake out this round, though...

Just mailed it in. While I couldn't pull off exactly what I set out to do, I visited my old friend the Tascam Porta One. Thanks for coming by, buddy. Now: who's keeping my seat warm in the Loser's Lounge?

Quiet 'round here. Everyone must be cramming.
I'm done. Signed, sealed and delivered. Here's hoping I don't wake up tomorrow and hate the mix.
Good luck everyone! NUR EIN!

Re: Nur Ein III- Round 2
Don't be surprised if you get nothing from me. I'm a bit torn between having a life and recording this song. Both are kind of important to me. I've got a little demo version recorded on my new USB recorder, so if worst comes to worst, I'll send that version in.

You won't hear much of Rachael on this entry. We've both been sick, but her voice is in worse shape than mine right now. I'm thinking of having her try to do some background vocals tomorrow morning before the deadline.
