Just in case you weren't clear on the cast of the WSA (Adam!'s audio reviews lead me to that notion)
Furry Pedro - guitars, vocals, words, production, bass, glock, kitchen stuff, keys, drums
Glennny - guitars, bass, satanic vocals, glasses, mandolin, banjo, E-Bow
Melvin- production, guitars, drums, bass, keys, vocals, words
Thanks for the Frisbee- guitar, words, vocals
I'm probably forgetting some instruments.
We also had some help from Annabella for the little girl giggle in Sleepwalking, Swillington for extra hands playing water glasses in Whale, and Martyr for Polish lessons in Brain Trust.
I t was a great journey! I'd like to publicly thank the gents in the band !, no matter the outcome I LOVE the music we made!
Good luck Ken, Paco, Ross!

There was, and it was played by Glennny.
Also, let's not forgot my most important contribution as Producer: tambourine. Can't think of any more lyrics? Not in the mood for yet another guitar solo? Just not "feeling" the track? Here comes ol' Mel and his big, fat, rusty tambourine!

While I'm not a fan of the tambourine (understatement of the year, the Santa Cruz SFLive show's tambourine I was on [and asked a friend to haul cross-country for me, cough, cough] drew blood 2 nights in a row, on sets that were not my own, and my own personal mantra is "No fucking tambourine, ever"... just because I can actually play it doesn't mean I like it), I've got to say your use of it was less jarring/abrupt than Ken's.
If it comes to a tie, I'll be hard pressed to choose between y'all & Ken. I'm just saying...
Do we have results yet?

Some notes I made whie deciding ranking:
ken - toy synth a bit too twee? acapella - excellent. rising synth is welcome. vocal melody uninspiring. wood block is also possibly too twee. ending is good.
best - acappela
worst - 'test my intention'
paco - dislike the first sung line, but love the lyric. builds well, dies and builds agan. this is nice. 'naugthy bottom spanks'? no thanks. bridge is nice but feels like it jumped out of nowhere. ending is nice but i'm not sure i like it. lyrics are often hard to work out. bass ine is growing on me. return to verse after bridge makes the song dull.
best - 'same old socks'
worst - 'naughty bottom spanks'
ross - marching drums are not for me, neither is cinderella story. flows very well. vocal melody is better than prev. guitar work in bridge is nice. song is very coerent and the whole is better than the parts.
best - structure.
worst - marching drums.
wsa - first set of lyrics are brilliant if a bit emo. vocal melody is great. chorus works really well and is catchy. still not digging british vocalist, maybe would be better with harmony like the first verse. the second verse lyrics dont match with the first and chorus. didnt feel that it ended well.
best - vocal melody/harmony in verse.
worst - ending
ranking?
wsa
ross
ken
paco

Time is running out. Get your votes in!
(As for all the worries of ties, unless there is a wave of votes in some other direction, there looks like there will be a definitive winner.)

Woodblock? That's a cowbell and the only comment you should make about it is that there should be MORE COWBELL!!!

Sorry ken, but actually I prefer wood blocks, maybe if it had been one you'd have gotten a better ranking.

Just got my votes in. It's really tough when all the songs are so good. They're all winners in their own style.

Wow. humbled.
I've already said this to the guys in the band but this has been one of the most awesome experiences ever. I'm particularly glad to have shared it with Paco, Ken and Ross the whole way. I do feel like we pulled a fast one in a way by entering as WSA rather than by ourselves, but then I listen to all the songs and there's no way I could have competed on my own. At the same time there's no one person in WSA that can carry the whole group, I feel it's very important that we did this together.
This is brilliant. Thanks voters, judges, competitors, bandmates and most of all Niveous.

Congrats Gents! This was a helluva fun ride - I am amazed to have been in the finals and loved every minute.
Thanks Niv and Judges, thanks Ken, Paco, Pete, Melvin, Frisbee, and Glennny for an amazing last two rounds.
Peace!
Nur ein!!!
PS - bummer that less than half of eligible voters voted, although I doubt it wold have changed the results.

oops guess my vote was late... but it would not have made much of a difference as it was just a couple points here and there...

Wow! Thank you competitors! Thank you judges! Thank you Ross, Paco, Ken! I'm honored to be a part of the WSA! It's the best music I've made in my career!
I especially want to thank Mel, Pedro, and Frisbee, I've been in a dozen bands and it's full of egos and compromise and arguments and pain. Working with you guys has been wonderful, the way you'd take criticism, redo something, speak honestly about ideas without being hurtful. I have the highest respect for you guys! This is my dream band, I just forgot to specify to the jinni that I'd prefer us to live close enough to play together actually as well as virtually.
Thanks Niveous and Fight Masters for enabling a virtual band like this to come together and make music!

Congrats to TWSA! Your song and Ken's were my favorites this round. I thought Ken did a particularly awesome job in this Nur Ein. If I had to rank all four participants' entries as if they were EPs, I'd put Ken's first. Everybody did great, though. I really enjoyed a bunch of the songs and have added them to my music library. It was also great to have more of the "old schoolers" involved this time, too, and I hope it gets them writing more songs. I know I've been inspired by sitting on the sidelines the whole time. Hopefully I can get off my duff and start making some music again. Anyway, until next time...

Congratulations to TWSA! Great job, guys. Hats off to Ken and Ross as well, you guys are fantastic: I am honored and undeserving to have rubbed shoulders with you this far into the competition. Thanks also to Niveous for hassle wrangling, and to all the judges for grunting though all this. I'd also like to thank JB, Frankie, and Jefff, (the tri-chumverate) for bailing out, as I'm sure I wouldn't have made it this far if any of them had been able to!

Great competition everyone, and I truly enjoyed all the music. NUR EIN!!!!!!!

Just heard the news! Wow!
Thanks thanks thanks thanks to Niv for putting this on, the FightMasters for making this site exist, the competitors for bringing so much great music to the competition, the judges for judiciously judging everything, and of course my bandmates, who I love like brothers to the fullest extent possible under the virtual circumstances. I think this victory means it's time to meet each other, don't you?
As much as I love The WSA, I really didn't expect us to win for two main reasons: (1) The brilliance of the competition, and (2) the sheer challenge of coordinating a four-man band over e-mail, round after round, for weeks at a time. I am truly amazed that we made it this far, and totally honoured to have won over these discriminating judges and earned the votes of our peers.
This is my happiest and proudest SF moment ever, without a doubt.
Note: I agree with Lunk - Ken's body of work in this competition was amazing. I wasn't really familiar with his music before, and it's right up my alley. Great stuff. ADD is another artist that I was really happy to "discover" during this competition. It was also a highlight to find out that JBB has an absolutely brilliant singing voice. There were so many great tracks over the last few weeks... hats off to just about everyone.

First off, a big congratulations to the Worldly Self Assurance. It's mind-boggling that a band scattered across the globe could come together and make such great music (and within the time constraints). Amazing job.
And I wanted to thank everyone who has been a part of this year's Nur Ein. Nur Ein is a labour of love every year. There's always a good share of bickering (what do expect out of something inspired by "Survivor"?) and there's always some kind of mayhem (missing judges, technical difficulties, etc.). But in the end, I can always look back on the experience and say with the utmost certainty that it was all worth it.
The music created this year was amazing. There are many that will be in my jukebox for a long long time. This year's jury has been wonderful. Adam, Sam, Erin, Nigel, and RG, you are all a great bunch of people. We should make some tunes, dammit. Collabs!
So again, thanks to everyone who was a part of this year's Nur Ein. It's been a blast.
