qotd: nothing really exciting. Disneyland paris opened on my third birthday, Terry Fox started his marathon of hope on my -10th birthday and some guy named Tiny Tim was born on the same day a long long time ago. Kinda boring stuff, actually.

Okay so I have the drumkit set up now, and I remember something about its brain which was very irritating.

It has three completely separate sets of note mappings:

1. MIDI note to internal sound (useless)
2. Face pad to MIDI note (useless)
3. External trigger to MIDI note (absolutely necessary)

GUESS WHICH IS THE ONLY ONE THAT CAN'T BE EDITED

grumble grumble

also the trigger pads are about as crappy as I remember. Maybe I'll just replace this dang thing with my Alesis ControlPad which is at least somewhat decent (which is funny because the upright kit that I hate so much is also made by Alesis). Just need to get suitable pedals and a couple trigger pads for it or something.

I went to Meadowbrook last night to see my friends The Undercover Operatives play the Second Stage. Then Michael McDonald played, and then Earth Wind & Fire. All three acts were great. Michael McDonald in particular. Dude hasn't lost a step.

Hmmm, in 1864 some guy named William Tecumseh Sherman burns down the city I'll be later born in and decides to go to the beach.

1926, NBC begins to annoy people.

1969, my birth startles the captains of the Soviet submarine K-19 and the American submarine USS Gato in the Barents Sea, who have to awkwardly exchange insurance information afterwards. Meanwhile, a whole lotta hippies and horny kids "March Against Death" in D.C.

1971, Intel releases world's first commercial single-chip microprocessor, the 4004.

1887 Georgia O'Keeffe gets her first view of a recurring thematic element in her paintings.

1907 Claus von Stauffenberg, German, leader of failed plot to assassinate Adolf Hitler, starts his long slog toward failure.

1928 C. W. McCall emerges from his big rig.

There are other things, but this is already too long, heh.

Twenty-two years, to the day, before my birth, JFK was shot and killed.

Also dead on my birthday were Anthony Burgess, Aldous Huxley, and C.S. Lewis.

And Shemp.

I share my birthday with Rodney Dangerfield, a fact I did not learn until I read the late comedian's obituary. I also learned just today that I happen to share my birthday with such various public figures as author George Eliot (the woman, not her husband from whom she took her pen name),Yeah Yeah Yeahs lead singer Karen O., tennis player Billie Jean King, and Jamie Lee Curtis, whose daughter currently attends the college from which I recently graduated.
