I think so. You can't pick your audience, your audience picks you. You like your music, you enjoy making it, there are other people in the world with similar likes that get it. If someone doesn't get it, it's because they aren't your audience.

Here, let me give you a tutorial:
*holds hand up really really high*analytically, you're up here .... Image

*holds hand level to my eyes* The a average genre biased listener is right here.... Image

Sorry, those were the only smileys I could find in a pinch. Image

I have already made this confession to Spud personally, but I didn't get Octothorpe - until I saw I saw Spud performing live at Santa Cruz, and then it became much easier to get and I enjoyed it immensely. Another hard-to-get SFer I recall from that evening who made far more sense in a live setting was the one-and-only Marcus Kellis.

But I still don't really get Starfinger's "More Than Soup". I like a lot of Starfinger's stuff, but not that particular song.

I don't think I'll ever forget having a conversation with Starfinger where he was having some issues with his newfound success. My response: "Well, if it makes you feel any better, I hate More Than Soup".

Wow, I'm stunned.

Knowing BLT, I would've thought he would've replied in this thread and answered Cock, as in:

I've heard people talk about Cock, so I figured I'd give Cock a try. I tried Cock a few times and found out I didn't like Cock every much.

Hmmm, maybe he just likes Cock.

Thanks ujn for having such an awesome band name.

I'm shocked, SHOCKED, that no one has said Rone yet. :D

Edit: Oh yeah, I should probably answer the QotD too. I guess I'd have to say both of the Durands. Just not into the whole folk music thing I guess. hehe.

QOTD: Melvin. Enjoyment just doesn't happen. Technical appreciation of the composition and assemblage of elements and production yeah, but once I take off that part of the reviewing hat, the inner child says "this may be good, but yuck..." and wanders off to another room in my head to read a book or play with the animals or take a bath or something.

That said, I'll prove myself a liar and say that I'm enjoying his Paper Thin entry.

Oh, don't hide behind the BLT, you know you love Cock. I bet you have your headphones on right now with Cock blasting in both ears. If Cock was a sandwich, you'd be eating Cock as we speak. You know how I'd know? Because your breath would smell like Cock on rye. :P

Well, there we go. There are six sets of actual reviews so far this week, and two (one-third!) of those have gone for the "Don't Get Octothorpe" review. Ross, Melvin, we have you in our sights.

We've been through this slightly in the past, and yes I absolutely gave it a chance - I do every fight. And since the LA live fight three years ago. I suppose a more accurate thing to say would be, "I wouldn't choose to listen to this." I guess if Chris has his opinions about why, that's fine. The why doesn't really matter, I suppose. I liked everyone in the band I met, I am totally on the side of everyone to make the music they think is most "valid," or enjoy making. In the end I vote for the ones I think are "good." For me # is not on that list so far.

Keep me in your sites - I dare ya! ;-)

Thanks, Ross. I appreciate the expansion, and your point of view. You like what you like, and I can't argue with that, nor would I want to. You have probably heard that in the early days, we kept a list of all the reviewers and actively tried to get a good review out of each and every one of them. Believe me, it was like pulling teeth with a few of them. They know who they are. But we did it, and we will probably pander to you too one day. One day soon, perhaps.
