Back when my wife was just my girlfriend, I gave her a copy of my then-new "album" (read: hand-duplicated cassette).

I've been trying to live that down ever since. 11 years later she still reminds me about it sometimes when she's mad.

I'm doing half covers, half originals, so hopefully I have enough to equalize the suckiness.

Making a song that's just all about her goes over well, too. I'm sure she's told you a story or two about her life... just make sure you can play the darned thing live, and that she has a sense of humor somewhere in there too, heh.

Huh. I just banged out the bridge that was eluding me, so it appears I have a complete song written for this title. It looks like I'm returning to my roots - simplistic song structure, low-fi fuzzy, plinky guitars, and big, droning open chords. Oh, and depressing lyrics.

Hopefully I'll find the time to record this sucker this weekend.

I actually wrote and recorded songs for 2 of my old school mates as presents for their 40th birthdays. That went down pretty well. I had 30 years of dirt on both of them that needed dredging up and setting to a disco beat.

As it turns out, I am bad at singing. This may prove to be a major road block in the path of me finishing my song.

I keep going back and working on the music, but I still can't think of any lyrics. I may post what I've got and solicit lyrics donations to fit it. You will receive full credit and your share of the $0 proceeds from the song.

I'm considering giving this one a try if inspiration hits. I'm currently doing FAWM and RPM Challenge, so what's one more "competition."

You do know that songfight IS a competition, right? There's a winner and everything. And LOTs and LOTs of losers.

Am I reading Clif's post wrong? It sounds like he's saying, "what's one more competition", referring to a Song Fight entry, which acknowledges that he is aware it is also a competition.
....by now you'd think I'd know better than to question JB. I wonder what will happen to my post count this time.

Clif put "competition" in "quotes", undermining the credibility and seriousness of Song Fight.
JB is saying Song Fight is SRS BIZNESS, and also called us all losers.

Ahh, I see, thanks Manhattan. And once again, JB proves that I'm an idiot.

....on a side note JB, proving that I'm an idiot is really easy, so don't get all big headed now. :D

Thanks for reminding me that this community eats its young. You guys can have your serious song competition (and my quotes referred to FAWM and RPM, which aren't), but I'm keeping the song title.

Seriously? Well, I guess sarcasm is harder to derive from text.

Sorry, we've been displaced from the storms in KY for 8 days now, so I'm over-reacting to just about everything at this point. We have a dozen family members living in a small 2 room house, so finding space and time to write and record this song is a lofty goal anyway. I guess I'm just looking for some sanity outside this situation by connecting with folks here and in RPM and FAWM. So please forgive me if I'm testy ;)

If you spotted some actual sanity here I guess you can have it. You deserve it, since your sanity seeking skills clearly exceed mine. Also, welcome aboard.

All this undetected sarcasm and subsequent misunderstandings is how I picture the songfight chatroom.

Anyway, yesterday, I saved something I recorded after coming up with a new idea for the music to a song and figured I'd use the lyrics to this weeks entry (one of the versions I wrote anyway, since I've written two sets of lyrics that work for this week) but it features a dissonant string because I sort of broke it but it didn't really break. There was a weird thing that happened that sounded like it snapped but everything was still attached and there was some slack, so I just tightened it back up, because I figured I could re-tune it but nope dissonance. So I just recorded it anyway because I don't have a problem with dissonant sounds (when its intentional at least) and tried to add a little fuzz on that track to maybe make it sound more intentional but it still sounds like a different kind of noise than was added or was meant to be there.

I suppose I could've just avoided playing that string but it was apart of what I had in my head but the fact that it was dissonant wasn't in my head, so, you'd think that would factor in somehow and I'd change it but I think I'm slightly OCD and I couldn't not play it because that was the sequence in my head. I guess there's enough time left before the deadline to buy new strings* and re-record but theres no guarantee I'll re-record it because I'm still trying to figure out if the dissonant string adds or detracts and if there is adequate relieving of tension (which I am a horrible judge of because to me those are just a bunch of special needs buzzwords, iykwimhaapfs).

That and I'm just not in the mood to really record things right now. Though that could change in the next couple days I suppose. Then again, I recorded it when I wasn't in the mood to record anything, so, uh, yeah.

*Its about time I bought new strings anyway, since they haven't been changed in 2 years. How the hell do strings last for 2 years, anyway? Then again, the treble strings have seemed kind of iffy for a little while, which is why Half a Million Nerds was all bass strings.

PS: I was listening to the song on repeat while writing this and I'm convinced I should submit this because the songs pretty noise-arty anyway, what with the down-stroke, up-stroke, release drone under everything, and especially now with the extra fuzz, that it almost feels right for that one little out of tune string to go all ckkk unnecessarily. I like it.

You should see if you can not-break all the strings, then keep that guitar as a dissonance machine.
