It's a function of how well you've treated your ears during your lifetime. People who go to a lot of loud concerts or use power tools without adequate protection or whatever can't hear it as well. I still can hear it just fine.

You've spelt something wrong.
.....oh - no, you haven't. Sorry, my mistake.

I've abused my ears for years playing loud music standing in from of huge stacks of speaker cabs. I hear the mosquito tone, but it's weak.

I've always carelessly listened to lots of loud music. I've also always had slightly better high-frequency-range hearing than many people around me (in high school, I remember almost daily walking into particular classrooms and going straight to the tv which had been left on -- nobody else seemed bothered by the noise it made but me -- it sounded similar to the "mosquito" link from a few posts back). In summary, I don't think I'm quite "old" yet but much older than I used to be. And I can hear it just fine.

Yeah, I've always been able to hear TVs, too, even when they're not transmitting audio. It's one of the many reasons I've been so happy with the recent widespread availability of computer-watchable TV like Amazon download service and Hulu.
