Yeh, I don't think Velvet Underground ever really became popular per se, just amongst musicians. Their impact is seen way more on music (indirectly) than on the listening public (directly). That said, I love it.
Ask a person on the street and they might know "Femme Fatale" and probably nothing else, and couldn't even tell you the name of the band.
I think. I could be wrong.

I'm totally suprised to see Machine Gun Fellatio [high] on that list. Well, they're from down under, so it's not too suprising. I just figured no one has ever heard of them.
