Cabot cheddar says right on the package "no lactose" and I have had good success with it. But that's only Cabot, so far.

well, when it makes you sick to eat it, you get used to it. i am unashamed to ask restaurant workers whether something contains milk. and when a salad appears with cheese on it, i send it back. they will understand. i do miss regular pizza, though, and special cheese.
