So, here's the thing: I downloaded all the songs on a computer that was hooked up to a broadband connection, then burned them to a CD and took them home to review. However, I'm not sure which ones go to which name, but I believe I burned them in alphabetical order, so that's how I'm going to treat them. If you think I reviewed the wrong song and associated it with your name, let me know.

Adam Dachis – I really enjoy the sense of humor in this song. It makes me think of something that should be in some independent musical film or something. Or maybe a cartoon, like Animaniacs. Well, with the exception of the blowjob line. Possible vote.

Analog Manifesto - This is boring, and throwing glass eye in there doesn't really make it a contender for me at all. But maybe it's a joke?

Angry Folk Band - Yarr. I might very well vote for this. Very entertaining, matey.

C Hack - This, too, is good. I don't like the cutoff at the end. Maybe you should've faded it out?

Cri Du Chat - The guitar needs more treble, maybe. It sounds like you're playing it in a box. And the vocs are a bit too quiet. Overall, not my thing.

Dayjob - Your guitar sounds out of tune. It's bugging me. Also, maybe you just don't have the equipment to do more, but this isn't very compelling as an acoustic song. Kinda boring. And sometimes I can't hear your voice very well. Sing, brother!

Dr. Worm - Musically, I like this. But your voice sounds off key a lot. And it's too long, I think.

Fun With Dolphins - Another acoustic only song. Guitars in tune this time, but it's really short, with some weirdness at the end. What happened? Is that your fault, or did something screw up when I was burning it?

Hillbilly - Not a big fan of country, though the lead guitar did remind me of listening to old Garth Brooks stuff when I was young. But the vocals I do not like. The Chorus effect is too much. And it's too long without any changes. This song needs some awesome drums and a badass lead guitar solo, instead of just an electric in the background. Cause it sounds like you could probably let loose with it pretty good.

King Arthur - I really like the funky sound of this one, man. This is a lot of fun to listen to. Not so sure about the vocs. They need some reverb maybe? Possible vote.

Lemon Song vs. Moscow - Way too quiet. And not as fun as you intended, I'd wager.

Luke Henly - It sounds like you're forgetting the words, the whole time. Or like you're falling asleep. This could be good if you weren't trying to keep other people from waking up.

Max the Cat - I like the guitar in this, but the mix of country and electronic doesn't work for me. Also, as I mentioned, I don't like country, especially not this style of country vocals. Though everyone here is telling me that your voice sounds like mine. Does that mean I don't like the sound of my own voice? Well, I do often feel that way.

Mikel Harrison - Vocals are really muffled, and there is nothing compelling about this. Kudos for the real instruments, though. More than I can say about most of my stuff.

Mother Funker - Wow, this reminds me of listening to Creed, but with a completely different singer. Too bad I don't like Creed.

No Way and the Joses - Great band name. Your song is pretty cool, as far as the music goes. Vocals could be better, but it's not too terribly distracting. Not bad.

Octothorpe - Man, your stuff is great. Sounds like a Muppets song. I may very well vote for this.

Pigpen - Bad rap, though better than the last attempt you made.

Pipefist/Deshead - My song. Had Des of Deshead fame do the lead electric and bass for us, and I think he did a fine job. I just wish we'd had another day to work on this. And I think I'll go back and turn up his guitar on the track.

Pompeii - Wow, the guitar in the beginning of this sounds like it was pulled straight from Sonic Adventure. Where are the cheesy 80's vocs?!? Ah well. It's really, really well produced, anyway, and when you start the chorus, you make me think of the Scissor Sisters. The chorus totally redeems what I didn't like about the verses.

Sell Crazy - I can't really understand what you're singing without headphones on. At one point I thought you said "Enchiladas without you." otherwise, this is okay.

Songfight Orchestra - This is a nice little tune, I guess. Glad it's short.
The White Hat - The record dust sound gets old. It's cool at first, but you should cut it out. The vocs are a little boring. The guitar is nice. I like this style.

Within Reason - Eh. Sounds like it could go into a video game, but it's mostly unremarkeable.

Wreckdom - This is entertaining, until it's SEVEN MINUTES LONG. But it does get creepy near the end, and it seems like it could be fun to listen to if I were playing Silent Hill there at the end.

So many songs....

RATINGS SYSTEM IS FROM 1 to 10
1 being poor and 10 being excellent

NOTE: The opinions expressed by Glenn Case are not necessarily the views of anyone.
-----------------------------------------------
The White Hat: Great guitar sound, and playing. Dylanesque vocals, except they are more on-key than he tends to be. Good songwriting also. I enjoyed this, and would listen to it again.

8 of 10.

ARTIST I HEAR COVERING IT: Bob Dylan, on a good day
----------------------------------------------
Cri du Chat: I like the guitar. I like the voice too. Here is an example of guitar and vocal that actually works. I like the chord progression also.

7 out of 10.

ARTIST I HEAR COVERING IT: PJ Harvey
----------------------------------------------
Fun With Dolphins: An entry that clocks in at :57 in the same fight as a 7:08 entry. I actually enjoyed this, and wanted more. Good production and vocals. Maybe would've had a higher rating if it was a fully-fleshed out song.

7 out of 10.

ARTIST I HEAR COVERING IT: Travis
-----------------------------------------------
Max the Cat: My eyes grew wide within the first 2 seconds. This is some good musicianship, here! I am not a big fan of the fake drums, but I understand how it goes, because I go the route of fake drums a lot myself. The vocals are outstanding, overall, by the way. You have talent.

8 out of 10

ARTIST I HEAR COVERING IT: Aerosmith (it wouldn't sound the same, of course, but it would work)
-----------------------------------------------
Motherfunker: Digging the guitar. Grooving to the rhythm by :24. Vocals don't take away from the production at all. If I were hearing this live, I would probably approach the stage. I would imagine that this wouldn't sound like the hit of the album, but it's not the worst track, either. Real Drums would add a lot to this.

7 out of 10

ARTIST I HEAR COVERING IT: Gravity Kills
-----------------------------------------------
Pompeii: I am glad that the sound from the intro was just that.... an intro. The kick-in is nice, but I think something could be done with the EQ to improve this. Sadly, I am no expert of EQ, so I can't tell you what needs to be adjusted, but the high hats do sound a little tinny on these speakers, so that might have something to do with it. Points for doing ok on the falsetto. That's no easy task. Nice guitar solo too. The end solo (and indeed the song) drags on a little long for my personal taste.

7 out of 10

ARTIST I HEAR COVERING IT: Lenny Kravitz, he's been needing new material lately.
-----------------------------------------------
King Arthur: The King is bringing the FUNK! Wow! This might be my favorite KA track I have ever heard. I am actually impressed. Don't get me wrong, your production is normally good, and your performances are always pretty good, but you honestly sound like you are having fun in this recording. Nice job!

8 out of 10

ARTIST I HEAR COVERING IT: Steely Dan
-----------------------------------------------
Mike Harrison: Mix is super-tin to my ears. Ease off the treble, maybe. Bass sounds good, but doesn't stand out in the recording nearly enough. Vocals don't do it for me, partially because of the tone, but also because I can barely understand a word of it. Switch at 2:28 is welcomed. I deducted a point because it seemed like it dragged on too long.

5 out of 10

ARTIST I HEAR COVERING IT: Nirvana

-----------------------------------------------
Sell Crazy: Excellent guitar sound. Vocals break up here and there, but they do so with character. I like the vocals overall, but they rub me the wrong way when they go off in certain spots. The overall sound is still pretty sweet, though. Attitude is right, but I want a little more attitude then you're giving currently. Harmonies are close, but a little too off. So close to being a really great production, just needs to be tweaked a little more. Without the vocal issues, I would probably be cranking this in my car non-stop.

7 of 10.

ARTIST I HEAR COVERING IT: The Pixies
----------------------------------------------
No Way and the Joses: Two of the best efforts I have heard in the fight have come back to back. I like the vocals slightly better on this track than the last one, and the music only slightly less. I like the vibe and production of the song. I could show this to my friends without being embarrassed.

8 out of 10.

ARTIST I HEAR COVERING IT: Duboce Triangle
----------------------------------------------
Analog Manifesto: You had to ruin the good mood I was close to getting into, didn't you? Might make good background noise in a videogame, in the right area. Not enjoyable on it's own.

2 out of 10.

ARTIST I HEAR COVERING IT: Turn on a shortwave radio until you get random noise, then enter it into a songfight! Results will be shockingly similar.
-----------------------------------------------
Within Reason: I actually like the intro drum track, but I get the sneaking suspicion that I just encountered two fruity-freaking-loops-techno-instrumentals in a row. You get an extra point from the speak-n-spell samples, due to nostalgia.

3 out of 10

ARTIST I HEAR COVERING IT: It shall be a Demo in the next version of Fruity Loops
-----------------------------------------------
C Hack: I actually enjoy it, but it's too short to really comment much on it, or get an idea on what I could say that would resemble constructive criticism.

6 out of 10

ARTIST I HEAR COVERING IT: Pirates singing away as they work hard on their ship
-----------------------------------------------
Choosing to review this week only gives me greater respect for those who actually put thought into their reviews, and do so on a regular basis. This has been a DRAINING experience. There were some great entries, however, and that made it worthwhile.

Score Key:
5 - Great song. I love this song.
4 - Good song. I like this song.
3 - Ok song. I'm indifferent about this song.
2 - Poor song. I don't like this song.
1 - Bad song. I won't listen to all of this song.

Max the Cat (4) - love the guitar playing and the vocal is really well done. Not sure about the precussion but it does seem to find the mood of the song. This has a bluesy feel about it that I like.
Doctor Worm (4) - I wouldn't have guessed where this song was going from the intro. This is the sort of song that I like better the more I listen to it. The vocal delivery slips slightly in a few places but that wouldn't be hard to tidy up. This has a good energy even if it is a little rough around the edges.
The Angryfolkband (4) - parts of the vocal delivery are a little strange e.g. in his one good hand. The mix isn't great as the bass and drums are too low and the vocal is too high. I like the duet and the story is fun, it sounds like you enjoyed doing it.
Pompeii (4) - great rock tune, the chorus chords remind me of another tune that I can't put my finger on. Love the falseto and the funky verse.

Took me an hour and some, but they're done.
------------------------------------------------------

Adam Dachis - Sondheim you're not. Neither are you bad, though. I laughed. I cried. I dug it. Brownie points for good production.

Analog Manifesto - Doesn't sound too analog to me.

Angry Folk Band - As a card-carrying folkie. I approve. Lost the mind in the war. Good. Watch things like Helllllluh.

Chack - "Back in 1937 times was hard and work was hard, the boss was very hard, the inmates they were very cruel sometimes themself. You get out on the job some time early in the mornin'; we'd be drowsy, feelin' bad. The leader of Number One would go to hollerin' "John Henry!" That mean pick up your tools up high and let 'em fall together. Boys, then the life would hit the gang and they would start to rollin' on." - Interview with Angola Inmate (liner notes from "Southern Prison Blues" recorded at Angola in '64)

Criduchat - high pitched artifacty whine. possibly something with the encoding? Otherwise, you have a good voice, be more sure of it, though.

Dayjobs - I liked the chorus. Watch forced rhymes. Possibly add some more variety to your strum pattern. The vox seemed to drop out at one point.

Doc - Guitar sounds like it's just plugged direct into the computer. It's pop-y. I'm ashamed to like it. Cool chorus. I think this will win.

Fun with Dolphins - that's it?

Hillbilly - Good ole' southern rock...? Well, good ole' southern acoustic. What happened to the e guitar?

Your Majesty - Certainly the King Arthur of Funk. Man, I can't help but laugh. The lyrics and your voice sound so much like Randy Newman. Still good. Possible vote.

Lemon - I hear a harmonica and a bandeon. Don't hear much of a melody, though. My hopes are up. Lar lar lar lar. My hopes are restored. The rhythmic speaking is wearing thin, especially with the absence of melody. Sharks shar shar sharks. This is good, somehow.

Luke Henley - Creepily sing-songy. Really freaking creepy. Like salad fingers creepy. Keep fingerpicking.

Max the cat - I like the 12-string riff. The MIDI percussion almost even works. E guitar riff not so good. Great voice, though.

Mike Harrison - Actual percussion. That's a plus. Make the vox a bit louder, please, and possibly a bit more diction. Instrumental break's a bit long, eh?

Motherfunker - I like the compression on the drums. Oh man, I'm enjoying this. YEAH ROCK OUT TO THE SOLO! ROCK OUT!

No Way + his Joses - Cool folk rock. Sounds pretty tight. I'd go to your band's show, even if I had to buy my own beer.

# - Thin out the instrumental accompaniment. Enjoyable, too.

Pigpen - Not my bag. Can't really complain. Ok. Skullfucking. Now I can complain.

Pipefist - Good voice. Lose the midi. You don't need it and it don't need you.

Pompeii - Here's the southern rock. Special dish. Rock. No vote, but rock. Lead - quit while you're ahead.

Sell Crazy - That lead guitar could sound really good with a little better tone. Ditch the the distortion. Possibly try some high gain with chorus and reverb. Backup vox aren't bad though.

Song Fight Orchestra - So many kazoos and synths. I got through this song.

The White Hat - I'm kinda proud of this song. It's my first real attempt at a fingerstyle blues and I don't think I'm too far off from where I am, if that makes much sense. If I were to do it again, I'd lose the record surface noise and play a little more softly so as to not make the strings buzz. Tried out for the talent show with this, btw. I'll get the results on friday.

Within Reason - Ah, Mr. Speak and Spell. I don't know if I'm supposed to take it seriously. Either way, I don't regret listening to it.

Wreckdom - I'm getting high pitched whines. I think it's part of your percussion track. Sounds like 1936 homestar, slowed down. Freaky. Reminds me of LEF, but I can only assume that the whole thing is not made of Looney Tunes samples.

My first reviews. I should probably preface this. Although I spend a great deal of time writing, arranging, rehearsing, playing and performing music, I don't really enjoy listening to it very much. So my threshold at which point I reach for the "next" button is very very low.

Adam Dachis I don't know what to make of this. It's sort of a South Park/Mark Shaiman meets Dilbert. Some of it made me laugh out loud.

Analog Manifesto I'm really not a fan of the avant-garde. This kind of thing is just wasted on me.

The Angryfolkband Ours.

C Hack Love the fact that it's a chain gang song. But I was reaching for the "next: button just as it ended.

Cri du Chat Not my thing. Sort of ponderous.

Dayjobs Too repetitive for me. The constant chord changing got tiring.

Doctor Worm I hate the sound of the rhythm guitar. The vocals (either the lead or backing) during the chorus were very out of tune several times. The reason this pisses me off so much is because I LOVE this song. FINALIST

Fun With Dolphins Still scratching my head. Song was 59 seconds and stops abruptly. Reminded me of a Kids in the Hall sketch. ("I made it with my very own ...")

Hillbilly I really liked a lot of lyrics. It struck me as very poetic. But it had that slow ponderous thing again.

King Arthur Sounds like Talking Heads backed up by a techno version of the Parliment Funkadellic. The story is very funny -- in a strange, ridiculous way. Made me laugh out loud at every chorus. Great take on the title. FINALIST

Lemon Songs vs. Moscow Best pirate accents I've ever heard. Where are you guys from? Liked the chorus "lar, lar, lar"

Luke Henley It's nice to know they have internet access in mental hospitals.

Max the Cat Great groove. Belongs in a movie soundtrack. Loved it. FINALIST

Mike Harrison The whole repetitive guitar thing got old very fast. Probably would've listened longer if the intro wasn't so long. Couldn't understand the lyrics (and I'm a big believer in the concept that I shouldn't have to read a libretto to understand the words).

Motherfunker Really liked it. A little jarring: with the fat, dangerous guitar intro, I expected the vocals to be more WWF. In other words, the vox were too pretty for the music.

No Way and the Joses Really had me until about 1:04. Then the chorus/bridge thing started. Didn't like that part very much. Loved the verses, though.

Octothorpe Uniquely strange. When I see people standing on the street corner, all their belongings in the shopping cart before them, screaming at passing traffic, I expect they're writing and recording songs like this. (is it okay to be this mean? If not, I take it back.)

PigPEN Made me laugh out loud. Liked the orchestral samples. Very clever lyrics. FINALIST

Pipefist feat. Deshead Sorry. It's that ponderous thing again.

Pompeii Really liked this. A lot. FINALIST

Sell Crazy Ponderous again. I don't know why it is I can't listen to ponderous. Maybe I'm in too good of a mood for it.

Song Fight Orchestra It's that avant-garde thing.

The White Hat Very folksie and Dylany. Liked it even though it was ponderous. Didn't skip it.

Within Reason Avant-garde. Still not my thing.

WreckdoM Avante-garde. Sorry.

Thanks for the tip? I know just what to improve next time?
Sorry.

Here's more than just a quip:

The song only has one form -- ie. there's no verse / chorus contrast. It got very repetetive after the first minute or so.

The lyrics and delivery were strange and disturbing.

I generally found the song alienating.

How's that?

Pipefist - Good voice. Lose the midi. You don't need it and it don't need you.
....midi? You mean like...the drums?

adam dachis
not off to a promising start. ok, goes into broadway musical type stuff, i like that. moderately amusing lyrics. scratch that, testicle in the eye socket, not funny. yeah, boogers, very clever...? not really my type of humor, i guess. well produced and seems well performed, and i like the premise, but the lyrics aren't doing much for me. not enough of a joke to stretch for this length...

analog manifesto
random tones, check. my keyboard can do that too! is anything else going to happen? not very musical. vocoded "glass eye" to qualify for the fight. yeah, that's weak.

the angryfolkband
that voice sounds familiar. decent production. i like the harmony vocals. the lyrics are ok. you should get the sober irishman to play tin whistle for you. and maybe play drums, too. i think i recognize those drum samples from Reason, since i use them, too. anyway, the song's composed well, without any extraneous stuff.

c hack
this is awesome! i listened to this at work on crappy speakers and low volume and just liked the idea of you doing a chain gang song. it sounds great on decent headphones. it's way too short, though, i could listen to 3-4 minutes of this.

cri du chat
like the band name. there's some high-pitched noise in there that's kinda splitting my ears a bit. i would have cut some of the bass from the guitar, recorded it in stereo or doubled it and panned the tracks apart, and put the vocals in the center. maybe a noise gate on the guitar to try to get rid of that high-pitched hissing noise. anyway, i like the singer's voice. there just isn't a lot going on. decent guitar playing. the song could use some more meat to it, like another part, or more emotion in the singing, like during the last verse.

dayjobs
dang, i was hoping for a kickin' pop punk band, that's what the band made me think of. sounds like the guitar could use some tunin'. is there a second vocal track? is it doing harmony sometimes? if so it sounds like it's a bit off sometimes. i would put this in "average open mic song" category only badly recorded...

dr. worm
i'm not that into the tone for the intro instrument, but that's minor. singing sounds pretty good most of the time. the vox seem a bit thin/buried in the mix during the loud part, maybe kill some of the mids in the guitars? i dunno. the guitar tone sounds pretty trashy and muddy. good songwriting, though. i want to cover this, that would be fun. what tempo did you do this at, out of curiosity?

fun with dolphins
uh-oh, is this guytar&tm;? sounds like a flub in the middle there. the vocals aren't quite on pitch all the time, which is more of an issue because they're half the instrumentation. your mp3 is fux0r3d, d00d.

hillbilly
aargh, plugged-in acoustic guitar. try mic'ing it if you can, it'll sound a million times better. this is way too slow and there just doesn't seem to be much going on. an unsurprising chord progression, laid back singing that makes it hard to focus on the lyrics, and when i do listen to the lyrics i can't really get into them much.

king arthur
wow, this sound is bizarre. sounds like some strange timing issues at the end of the second/fourth/etc. bars of the intro. the drums could use a hi-hat track. sounds like it's just kick/snare with the occasional tom fill. overall the production is ok. something is really rumbly though, and could maybe use a hi-pass? anyway, the song's ok. when i read the lyrics and saw "ernie" i was hoping it would be a song about bert and ernie, but i don't think it is, is it? after "ernie, turn your brain on" it would've been cool to hear a raging guitar solo.

lemon songs vs. moscow
think i heard some clipping in there. sounds like you could use a pop filter, too, or just a sock over your mic. if you were homeless and doing this on the street, i would flip you some change. now, though, i am going to skip ahead through your song.

ok, i'm done with the pirate motif, enough already!!

luke henley
man, this fight has lots of guytar. you could use a wind screen/pop filter, too (aka a sock over your mic). harmonies are a good idea. sounds like you've got some pitch issues, though. the guitar part is pretty repetitive. maybe have it vary away from the vocal melody more. i like the "ooh ahh" part because the vocal and the guitar parts aren't so similar. sounds like the guitar could be tuned a bit more...

max the cat
that's more like it. those guitars sound great. well recorded vocals. i'm not into the singing style, but the singing is still pretty good. this harkens back to your first submission, when everybody assumed you were using fruityloops or garageband. that acoustic definitely feels looped, ditto all the percussion. the lead guitar could use some work. it should shred a little more, i think. this seems a bit short and like it needs another section.

mike harrison
please go somewhere soon with this song, or i'm giving up. phew! those bass fills are out of control, i would tone them down. the guitar solo should probably be louder in the mix. the vox sound muffled. this is ok. eh...

motherfunker
ROCK!!!! is there an emoticon for the sign of the devil? if so, i would use it now. sounds like the compression on the drums or something is maybe "pumping" or whatever they call it. music reminds me a bit of megadeth. this could use some more intense vocals a la dave mustane. the bass from the kick drum is kinda overwhelming everything, at least for me. the verse vocals would maybe sound better centered. please rip it up on the guitar solo ... that was ok. i give it a B. i would have switched to a half-time feel in the part after the solo. the fade out is kinda lame for a heavy, driving song like this.

no way and the joses
ah, tasty drums. the other instruments don't sound as present as they do, though. the guitar is thin. this would be great if it had a big full sound. ooh, i like that chord progression change. i like the style of the guitar playing. this could use a full band pause for a beat, or some other break from the rolling rhythm. again i was hearing some guitar mania during the bridge, but just got an ambient noise instead. good song, though. the fade out is a little more tolerable with this style but still not optimal.

octothorpe
doo whop! # style that is.

... starting to lose consciousness ...

pigpen
your rapping is almost cool. sounds like you're narrowing in on a decent style. the lyrics are a bit uninspired sometimes, with too many easy rhymes. glass/ass, etc. your beat is alright except for the drums, mostly the hi-hat stuff.

pipefist w/deshead
i heard the cake-ness, too, as did other reviewers. the vocal style and melody bear the strongest resemblance. the instrumentation doesn't sound like them, i guess, but the "heeyah!" and "awwwwwww no!" and "alright" and "that's right" and "hey!" are something they've turned into a part of their signature sound. anyway, the song is kinda repetitive. they've got a serious knack for writing poppy tunes, but this one isn't as catchy as what they do.

pompeii
you've nailed the 80s hair metal sound, though the vocals could stand to be a bit drier. i don't think the effects on them do much for me. the backup vox could be more prominent and clear, too. there's the face-melting guitar solo i've been waiting for this whole fight, F YEAH!! or is it a keyboard? or both? who cares, it rules!! i might vote for this song because of my bias towards songs with awesome guitar solos...

sell crazy
i like how this just starts right in. the mix is a bit muddy. the acoustic guitar in particular could be more distinct. sounds like maybe one of the quieter guitar tracks is kinda out of tune. ok song overall.

song fight orchestra
i like the beat. yeah, kazoo. seems like a pretty different feel than the previous two entries, should be interesting to see how they all mesh.

the white hat
i think i would like a clean recording of this a lot better. best guytar of the fight. the vox and guitar are well played, and in tune, phew! i think a manual, performed fade out (rather than a mixer fader fade out) would sound better at the end, too.

within reason
this is kinda cool, but sounds like it's only half a song. could use a different drum beat earlier on as that beat and bass riff get repetitive. some of the speak and spell (?) samples are hard to understand.

wreckdom
you guys should rename your band so you're not usually last alphabetically. by the time i've reviewed 20+ songs i can't think straight about this kind of stuff anymore...

....midi? You mean like...the drums?
yeah. thems. Don't trust what I say, though. I never liked drums anyway, and I reserve a special place in my heart for MIDI drums. I think Dante called that place "Cocytus."

I am digging your song.

There is a major leap in improvement on your guitar tone IMO.

Your Glass Eye... might have a little of that classic rock sound you usually get but it's got a nice overall sound and I am really gettin' into it.

again, good work on recording quality.

Special message for No Way and the Joses:

As long as sharks come and go, we're doing alright. Larry by Hank's side and only Al and the Boardroom to understand. Glad to see you're still giving them sails a big wind, and the whole nine. Aye-aye!

Thanks!

Confession: around the start of the year, I made a couple equipment upgrades in the studio, as my "graduation present" for finishing up the Audio degree... the guitar is now going through a Pod XT, and the whole mess is being recorded on a Yamaha AW16G (digital workstation), and some of the other stuff that was being done externally is now handled onboard...

I'm still struggling with the AW16 a bit - when I was mixing down the song, there was more treble in the headphones than I could stand, even though winamp seems to indicate that it's bass-heavy, so I'm not quite sure what's going wrong there. Obviously, I'm misusing some sort of overall EQ or compression tool and it's messing with my mixi... I think it was Jack Shite who mentioned that there were no cymbals in the mix, and I'm gonna be watching that carefully on my next entry...

By the by, overall, I'm happy with the digital workstation; I intentionally did NOT go for a computer / protools kinda setup because I want to record music, not fight with the computer. Biggest complaint so far is that it's extremely picky about CD-RW media - I had to get some Yamaha brand 12x blanks to get it to work. And I haven't yet figured out just how the compression on input / output stuff works, but I was able to start making music with it right away...

The PodXT is also very nice - the biggest issue I have with that is the way the tone control knobs work - if you switch to a present where the bass is on 4, but the knob is sitting up at 7 - as soon as you move the knob at all, the bass setting jumps to 7, and you have to then move it back down to 4 to make that minor adjustment. I sorta wish they had either just used round knobs with no indicator that adjusted things up or down from current setting, or else used the tone settings on the knobs as soon as you load a preset. Guess I'll get used to that, too...

Damned if you ain't lyin' (I have a Pod 2.0). And if you move enough knobs, it's like you have to keep track of which ones you moved, so you know which ones are correct and which ones are still set to their preset values.

That's one nice thing about software plug-ins like Amplitube. Load the preset, watch all the knobs change accordingly.

Oh, as a side note, Octothorpe's song is about the best laugh I've had in weeks.

I have an older Nord Lead that has the same frustration. The presets obviously don't move the real knobs, but when you go to tweak a parameter, you blow it all to hell.

I keep a text file of all my presets.

I know that if you get the co-existing software for your POD and the right cables and what not, you can store and load several presets. So you could, in theory, have all of your recording preset values 1a - 9d and have a whole seperate set of ones for live gigs.

I don't have the software or the cables... I have a text file.

I'm a little bummed that no one sung about a third wooden leg, a peg leg, very woody and poking thru his shirt at the site of a skirt

I just realized how much the No Way and the Joses' song sounded like this song done by a local band here called The Spoonfed Tribe. Is this a coincidence? Anyone else know the band I'm talking about?
