Well, what little science was there was already pretty dumbed-down. What I mean, though, is that it feels like they changed from it being a cute thing about a bunch of nerds and showing respect to them as human beings into being yet another thing portraying them as completely socially inept and without any redeeming qualities whatsoever.

Well, socially inept is the stereotype that we all find humorous. It kind of comes with the territory. As far as redeeming qualities, they are always showing them working on important projects or making charts for something. That's kind of redeeming, right?

Yeah, interesting. I have only seen the Wil Wheaton episodes, and my wife watched the last one with me... so that was the first she'd seen of it. Her impression was just what you said... not gentle, but ridiculing. Especially the one girl's portrayal.
