New Zealand.....See Australia
This is, of course, where all the real interest lies. Who cares who wins the thing.

If NZ gets to the next round and Australia doesn't - it would be a cataclysmic disaster of biblical proportions.

Ideally - Germany will go on to win, which will make our thrashing by them more bearable. Still, it will be disappointing not to make the next round - especially since Australia are the reigning wold champions (sure, the "record books" say Italy won in 2006 - but since they only got there by cheating against Australia - it is pretty common knowledge in the soccer world that Australia are the real World Cup holders.)

I totally agree there.

Tho all the interest here lies in watching the expected humiliation of the English. Every 2 years, I sit back with glee in my heart as they flounder around, fumbling for an answer as to why everyone else is better than them. Its great.

Made all the better by the all the piss that is taken because Wales failed to qualify .... again

Tho Wales did get to the world cup once, in 1958. They were only beaten by Brazil, who went on to win it. Other than that they could have been the champions. They had the worlds greatest keeper at the time, Jack Kelsey(Arsenal), tho he was beaten by the worlds greatest striker, Pele (tho only by a deflection off a defender). Jack was my fathers uncle and I met him a few times when I was a lad. He was a lovely man as I remember.

My entry in the song-fight this week was inspired by the world cup. Not really too deep but it was a lot of fun to do something so topical. The male voice is supposed to be a football hooligan.

Santo, Sam and Ed's Cup Fever is our main source of World Cup news - and Kim Jong-Il actually picked the score beforehand!! Spooky!
