And what is up with that icon? I've been taking it to mean "I'm confused." Apparently it's a smiley face.

I like this part:

Scientists distinguish between genuine and fake smiles by using a coding system called the Facial Action Coding System (FACS), which was devised by Professor Paul Ekman of the University of California and Dr Wallace V. Friesen of the University of Kentucky.

Which I take as an attempt to make their system seem a bit less arbitrary than it is. Not that I'm saying it's bullshit, just that I'm skeptical about labeling things as real or fake with an algorithm.

EXACTLY.

8/20. I'd have done better by just assuming that they were all genuine (or all fake)... however, I expected to do really poorly at this, I have no perceptual skills whatsoever. This just confirms it (again).

I have some precpetual skills...but my problem is that I give everybody the benifit of the doubt, to a fault. I gave a genuine even if I was 'suspicious'.

Do you call it: Pop, soda or Coke?

I'm a 'soda' person in the land of 'Pop' It's a metaphor for my life.

Back home in the UK we used to call it "Fizzy pop", but 'round these parts we call it soda or else people get confused.

I usually say the particular brand I want, like "Dr. Pepper" or "Sprite".

Man, consider this... I went to college at the University at Buffalo, the land of "pop." A large segment of the population were from Long Island/NYC, the land of "soda." See the map for a visual aid to help you imagine this. The endless discussions on which one was right might have been interesting for a month, but I was there for 4 years.

"Soda." I used to say "soft drink," till I learned that that means "a drink without alcohol." Which would entail milk, juice, etc.... "Pop" is right out.

Being from Atlanta, it's coke...for everything... I hardly drink it anymore even if I do love the sweet nectar of the gods. Its really bad for me.

also, on a side note...all the pepsi machines in downtown Atlanta are always suspiciously 'out of order'.

I go to college in central Ohio. One guy comes into our room and says "I'm gonna steal a pop from you, ok?" My roommate and I say in unison, "No you're not." He looks confused, then annoyed. "Okay, fine. I'm gonna steal a soda from you, ok?" We nod consent.

Oh yeah, I got a 15/20 on that fake smile quiz, but isn't that more Monkey Affairs material?

Google Maps is the best online maps site ever (for north americans, that is). The directions are good, the local points of interests feature is amazing. Once it goes live I imagine they will have deals with various Yellow page listing, etc.
