The Special Relatives are glad Luke Henley is not doing Devils Live in a Quiet Pond, because the Special Relatives would probably vote for Luke Henley instead of the Special Relatives.

The Special Relatives regret to inform you that they will be particulating in the Black Fight this week. The Special Relatives will also be singing, which the Special Relatives have never done before.

Oh, and the Special Relatives got the title wrong, but liked their song enough to not really give a damn. Sorry.

One of the most memorable songs I've heard utilizing this approach in the last twenty years was the song "Some Fucking Shit Ass" by Life, Sex and Death. An integral part of the rhythm section AND the chorus were the lead singer growling "Some Fucking Shit Ass, UH!" over and over and over.

It sticks in my head in part because I had to edit the swear words out in order to play the video on a television program; essentially I rode the mute button in rhythm for most of the song (some __ing __ __ UH!) which, as it was a very rhythmic chant over a very sparse drum track, didn't really detract from the song as much as you'd think.

However, we ultimately decided to play their video for "Tank" instead, which sadly wasn't as good a song.

Just finished Punk Bartender. There's lyrics with this one and the song is nearly 3 minutes. Listeners: consider this your warning.

I have an ethics question: is it bad form to make some cover art for a fight if you might also make a song for that fight? See, I've never made any art before, as I'm sure most of you have noticed when listening to the lack of art in the songs I write. But more to the point, I've never made any song fight! cover art before, but I have put a little something together for one of the fights this week. I'm also sort of putting together some music for that same title, and I'm not sure if it's kosher to do both.

Interesting.... I've been working over a riff for Me the Merciless, and keep thinking I'm playing it too much in the song... this could be my excuse for the overt repetition of this riff.

Next stop... find a melody for my song! Grrrr

Just submitted "Our Love Violates Corporate Policy", my second submission, which features my lovely and talented wife on co-vocal. Primarily so that you can see how poorly I sing by comparison.

As for the song itself, I can only hope it is taken in the humorous spirit in which it is given. I can't even imagine listening to it without a sense of humor, unless it's being used as a sitcom theme song...

Well Draft is definitely in for Devils Live in a Quiet Pond. A very jazzy rendition featuring some fat cat jazzers here in T.O. (close friends). First time I've done a whole group effort in my space. Excited about the response. I could have spent days on this one. See you in the ring.

I am going with the excuse that I was experiencing major carpal tunnel syndrome in my left hand last night which kept me from developing and recording Me the Merciless.

I have a sincere question about provoking votes around here. I've been assuming that SongFight is best used as a place to get good feedback from strangers who have no vested interest in telling you your songs are better than they actually are.

To that end, I have told a few friends about SongFight, but I haven't told them which song was mine, and I told them to vote before going to the forums so they wouldn't figure out which one was mine. Is that fairly typical, or do people 'round these parts actively solicit votes from friends and family just to boost their numbers?

Just curious from a board-culture perspective.

First time trying to do a song for here, its going to be in the Devils live in a quiet pond section. Put the lyrics up in the lyric forum already, I feel the lyrics are probably better by themselves then the recording though sadly. But I wait anxiously for reviews, comments and criticism.

I take the 15-16 approach these days too...it's cool seeing even 6 votes, and knowing six "strangers" voted for ya... although, checking out number of downloads is exciting too, and then there's always that glowing review amongst the throng that can put your week over the top...

Plus, my "non-band" songs now have a place to go besides sitting on a hard drive or a reel. There's nothing better than hearing a great new song. Count me among those somewhat addicted...
