I'm quite sure we just pinged the Department of Homeland Security with that post. Thanks for bringing in the Fed's, Caravan... :-)
The Feds are already among us. Not sure if Niveous is part of Homeland Security, though.

BTW - I am going to Singapore next week. I could pop over to Bangkok and organise the venue while I'm there. No problem. Consider it done. Do we want soapy body slides all round? Or just the ping-pong ball show?

While Songfight! Bangkok Teens and Queens sounds fun, I'd be concerned that nobody makes it to the event itself. But it would make for one hell of a hangover.

Just for the record, my vote for 2012 would be Seattle, with Austin a close second. I'd lobby pretty hard to get the event back to Austin in 2013.

Any other input? Any other nominees?

My least favorite of all those cities is Atlanta, although I do have family and friends there.
It seems odd that we would repeat a city while we skip the largest metropolis in the country: Los Angeles!
I think Madison would be a lot like Spokane, which was wonderful, not a lot to do, so we're forced to hang out with each other and make music.
LA has cheap flights for everyone.
Austin would be great too!

Are we ever going to hop the pond and do London? It's as easy to get to London as Atlanta for me anyway.

They all sound good, LA sounds best to me.

One issue with LA is that we don't have anyone from there volunteering to host, unlike the other cities.

We've done a few smaller "presents" shows in the LA area, for whatever that's worth.

I don't think that city size should be a factor. We are not actually rock stars, we're just having fun with what is essentially a private party that happens to be open to the public. It's easy to get caught up in the idea of this being some big glamorous show where we get discovered and have a million billion random people showing up, but that's just not what happens at these things.

It's better just to have it in a place where we have a bunch of locals and their friends (because let's be honest, that's where most of our audience ever comes from), and for that reason, repeats in Seattle and Austin are very promising.

If this is our attitude, then we'll never get there!

Well said, fluffy.

If there were ever a time when we were going to find a broader audience than just our immediate friends and families, Saturday in NYC would have been it, but I still think most of our spectators were just people who happened to be drinking there when we started playing. Nobody really inquired about the event or about Songfight except for that one dude who did a song at the end of the night.

OTOH, we do have people near the LA area, and if one or more of them steps up to volunteer for all the grunt work, then by all means let's consider it! Just bear in mind the following: Ask Niveous how much crap he had to handle for Yanks & Banks. Ask Ken and fluffy how much they had to do for Love & Haight. Now imagine doing all that work, but remotely.

Madison is awesome. I'd come there. You guys don't do anything in these cities anyway except sit around and hang out with each other so what's the difference? Atlanta sucked for me personally. Austin is always awesome. Seattle was great.

I vote for Madison. Let's keep doing it in different places until we run out (San Francisco excepted—put it on the list for 2010).

I agree with that, too. I actually quite like Madison, and it's not like there's nothing to do there. It's just a bit more sedate, but I'm totally fine with that.

Since some folks are already listing out their rankings, I'd say mine looks like this:

Seattle (50 points)
Madison (40 points)
Austin (10 points, cf weather and mosquitos)

I'd be up for Madison too, as it's never been done and somebody there is motivated. What's the summer weather like? Probably cheap places to stay too.

The thing is, with Seattle, you KNOW it will be dialed in and dealt with by Spud. And it's an awesome town. Maybe even Leaf and TAFKAP* would come. Just sayin.....

There are a few WI fighters, though admittedly they aren't around much so who knows.

Summer weather is highly variable, but it's been 70s-80s lately.

I was thinking if we gig at the park, I could look into renting a house across from the park to make things nice and simple for everyone...

By far the easiest and cheapest option for me. Direct flights from Brisbane are cheap as buggery. And assuming your dollar remains in the toilet, if I stock up on clothing and electrical goods while I'm there - I could make money out of the weekend.

In alpha order:

Atlanta
Austin
Los Angeles
Madison
Seattle

Is this our final list of cities under consideration? If so, maybe we should put up a poll.

We could probably just buy a building in Madison.

There has got to be an entry like Tashkent, who every 4 years bids for the Olympics and always gets voted out first
