These are skills which are just not being taught to the kiddies nowdays. Hoppy was old-school. He had all the skills. The thing was - he was so good - he could give you a wedgie, and make you think he had inserted 3 fingers into your rectum. Or, sometimes he just inserted 3 fingers into your rectum. He always kept the opposition guessing.
When I run my junior training clinics, I always take the kiddies somewhere private to go over some of the League's so-called "dark arts". We do the finger drill, a bit of squirrel gripping and then finish off with the Christmas Hold. These are important parts of any good rugby league players tool-kit.
