JB, I happen to be pretty sharp with the ol' JavaScript there, in case you want any help with your secret project. ;)

I guess I'm still wondering, in spite of the mountain of work you've put into it, MG, if copying the archive into the wiki is the best way to meet the goal of providing a way for users to annotate the archive. If the official archive had wiki links for every fight, artist, and song, wouldn't that be good enough? People could still follow the links and provide free form annotations on the fights, artists, and songs. There's really only a little bit of extra info you added to those wiki pages (rank, % vote, timeline, etc.), and that stuff could just as easily live on the archive pages anyway since it's not meaningful for that data to be user-editable.

In an ideal world, I'd like to see:
* The ability to annotate and comment on fights and particular songs in fights
* The ability to edit artist information directly

I'm not sure if wiki links are sufficient for that cause, but I'm game for whatever anyone wants to do because I have no power over such things.

All I can do is speculate, but I would guess that practically nobody looks at songfight.net. Maybe you guys have some stats/analytics about traffic to songfight.org relative to songfight.net that could provide some hard data that would show otherwise, though, I don't know. Anyway, not to get too far off topic but if you could please put back the Jukebox link on songfight.org some time I would be very grateful, thanks. Probably linking there to the wiki would help the wiki, too, whichever wiki is "the" wiki at the moment. :)

Anyway, we're on the same team here, dickface. I think if it's going to be official, we should figure out how to make tighter integration with the archive so bots aren't necessary. What do you say?
I agree, big nose, though integration with the archive will require Spud's participation as he's master over the .org pile of spaghetti. For various reasons, he has been reluctant in the past to integrate code that didn't originate with us into .org.

But on the forum/.net side of things there's less of an issue since it's all 3rd party apps anyway. We can unilaterally dictate changes to .net or the forums, whatever we think is a good idea, and just do it and tell everybody about it and try to get them to use it.

I *know* what would make a chat room work, for example, but have never been able to find one to do the trick. It would work like Gmail chat-- a window that appears while you're browsing the forum, and which is persistent and AJAXy. Floating. Not refreshing. Not a separate site. Part of the forum. But that's a little side aggravation-- I've been looking for something off and on forever it seems, and have never found the easy, persistent little chat box that would let us all gather around together. *sigh*

Didn't Marcus have some wiki somewhere at some point too?

All the wikis I know of are conveniently listed on this wiki page! http://sfbase.net/wiki/Help:Contents

Well, there was a link to it on the front page. The consolidation wasn't my idea, I can tell you that. I think I will blame the IRC room. I just do whatever you people want. I linked to both. You guys tell me when you've figured it out.

1. I'd like SF to be televised. But only on Sunday mornings. So that people can see true spiritual honesty instead of religious shows.
2. I'd like a BBQ, cooking, smoking and baking forum here. Making music and awesome food go hand in hand. And I'd like a moderator appointed that will warn jerks that make fun of GUYS THAT BAKE AWESOME!. And I'm a grilling guru too.
3. I'd like a FREE SF t-shirt. Because paying for one just makes me say, meh. But a free one makes me say HELLZ YEAY!!!
4. Ban MG for planting cyber bombs all over this mutha fuka, then punch him in the dick.
5. Have SF Lives in places we can blast our shit. I'm not an unplugged guy and so many others aren't. I want a wall of 4X12 cabs!
6. If #5 can't happen, then let's just have a BBQ at the beach. We know we rock. Let's just hang out and let me make awesome food for everyone. I like making good food for the masses. We can just break out the acoustics and be funny or sing Neil Young songs. I've been practicing on my blues harps. And accordion sounds great with waves softly crashing in the background.
7. Dogs and cats are allowed.
8. kids are too. If they are older and awesome like mine.
9. jb should pay for all the booze, cuz his chick is a famous news person. And if that is a prob, fluffy, cuz he's rich.
10. Ticker tape parades for BATP. Or as I like to think of us as Bat P.

Thanks Spud! I wasn't trying to sound ungrateful. I was thankful for the initial link before and thankful for the new and improved version now. :)

Samuel, you sounded ungrateful. I'll expect $1 dollar in my paypal. Why? because I was offended.
11. If an SFer offends you, they owe you $1 dollar.

BLT, my point was that I hardly ever take suggestions. I offered to put the Jukebox and the Wiki on the front page, and I did. Then a bunch of guys sat round chatting in the IRC room and decided that it would be better if all third-party SF stuff was consolidated somewhere, WIKI, Chat, Facebook, Flickr, etc., etc., etc., and I did something uncharacteristic. I did what they suggested. And see where it got me? I am making Lunkhead, of all people, appear ungrateful. Well, now I have taken his suggestion. Let's see how THAT flies.

But I know that you know what my point was and you know that I know that you missed it on purpose.

Love, SPUD

Perhaps for starting a wiki, we might want to consider taking a different approach. When wikipedia started, it was a more conventional encyclopedia with a group of people assigned to creating the articles. Once a foundation was in place, they could move forward and it became the behemoth it is today. Perhaps that's what we need, a closed encyclopedia first that a few people gather information for. Once there is something there for people to work off of, then we open the flood gates.

I would consider it quite wonderful if you would head that effort, Niveous. I can lock down that wiki so only the Chosen Few can make changes, until such time as it's deemed ready for all to contribute.

Lemme know,

Well, I am right now in the midst of one of the craziest situations I have ever had at my job. Once this calms down and I have given lyrics to Zinkline for FAWM, I will be more than happy to spearhead this effort. I love Songfight and being able to compile its history is a very worthwhile project.
