Oh geez. I have been thinking the whole time four were being cut! Relief.
But I looked at the list again and it's still completely atrocious. You are all scarymonsters.

I'm getting back on it. Eeeek. Nur Ein!

I can't decided whether the villanelle is an advantage or disadvantage.
Part of me wonders if the challenge was directed at me since I've been writing some pretty crap lyrics.

I double checked just to make sure I remembered right, but I remember liking your lyrics for "...the darkest" and "Architect" enough to go back and doublecheck them. I think you have a reflective quality that's pointing to something without trying to be too twisty or double-speaky. I would call it clean.
ps. for me the villanelle has been an advantage, I *think* ... but we shall just have to see, I s'poze.

Not sure if I've mentioned this before, but I hate mixing.
Also, to the seven acts about to beat me this round, you're welcome.

Schoolboy error. Sweden were always going to win.

Turkey 7th. Reasonably respectable for one of my tips.
But WTF - Moldova 11th?!?! A dude in MC Hammer pants singing about his trumpet, who didn't actually have a trumpet. These people are insane.

Well.....I think I wrote a decent villanelle and I made the song I wanted to make but I am still afraid I may be out. It depends what kind of mood the judges are in, I guess.
Also, I give up on mixing it. Seven tries is enough. I think I will go buy some beer now.

I made my song exactly 1 villanelle. If the judges rank based on the challenge, I might make it to round 6. I think I performed well, but it's a short, simple song because, hey, I stayed true to what I read on wikipedia.

Yeah, I thought the same thing when I saw furrypedro's lyrics. They took some liberties I didn't think were allowed. Otherwise, I probably would have written a more traditional pop song. Instead, I had to go all insane and whatnot.

I have run the villanelometer over furrypedro's lyrics - the first 19 lines seem to answer the challenge (though some may question the best/sheds/chest rhyme). Then there is a second, incomplete villanelle for the last 19 lines - the final repetition of Refrain 2 (line 19) is missing. And then there is a stray 7 lines stuck in between these - seemingly just along for the ride.

Yeah, I can see that he wrote a villanelle, possibly two, but there are also those extra lyrics in the middle. I haven't heard the song, but that seems like a bridge or a chorus or whatever and I just assumed this wasn't allowed. Maybe I'm the stupid one!

I'm in.
I also wrote my song in the formof exactly one villanelle with the exception that I repeat the very last line (Asub2) once at the end.
It will be interesting to see if the judges have any comment at all, they are pretty quiet judges.
Seems to me that if you view challenge as restraint, the "lyrics in the form of a villanelle" should exclude additional non-villanelle content. If it had been "lyrics must include a villanelle" that would be different.
I submit the following
http://songfight.net/forums/viewtopic.p ... 54#p175654
I, like Frankie, wrote the song I wanted to write, and am very happy with it, but I suspect I will not be moving on. I hope I am wrong.

oh. consequently, i did make it in and stuff.
...my Upkeep as a Citizen and General Human and my Household Worthiness (and other things of that nature, such as being a functional member of my Relationship) those things have seen Slightly Better days. Mr. Ranger Den got to drink beer and watch movies where people were blowing stuff up all day though, so not much complaining there.

Gosh I hope choruses are allowed or I'm out. I interpreted the challenge (and clarification) to not forbid additional content, but hey, would it have that Nur Ein charm without anxiety about how the judges will choose to interpret it?

I've listened twice through, and my favorite non-WSA song is by far the ADD submission! Great Freaking song man!
Everyone else submitted high quality good stuff. I have no clue how this will shake down.

I think that from this thread we can conclude tha WSA, ADD and Ross will all be disqualified for not strictly adhering to the required lyrical form, so the judges don't even need to bother listening to the rest - they can just put their feet up. Sorted.

I interpreted the challenge to be "make a song to go with a villanelle" not "write a song that incorporates villlanelle-like elements".
It shall be interesting to see this play out. I don't normally do songs this thin, but it seemed appropriate for a poem.

I know. I voted for it

"My trumpet makes you a girl" is one of the best lines in modern pop.

It would be if he had a frikkin' trumpet. I was hoping he had one in his trousers somewhere. But he didn't. His girly backup dancers were good though. Is 'Moldova' even a country? I reckon they are starting to make some of these up. And I do feel quite embarrassed that I disclosed my Irish ancestory last week. I hope I am not related to Jedward.
