Picking 10 seems impossible. It depends on my mood. I feel very drained at present, so here are the top 10 of the moment for me.
1. Paul Westerberg - Good day
2. The Knack - You can't put a price on love
3. Eels - Flower
4. Led Zeppelin - Ten Years Gone
5. Ellis Paul - Here she is
6. Dada - Crumble
7. Beatles - Dear Prudence
8. Lenny Kravitz - Circus
9. Steely Dan - Caves of Altamira
10. Fleetwood Mac - Over and over
These are songs I can listen to (or HAVE listened to) on repeat play for long periods of time without getting sick of them. I know I am forgetting other important ones that deserve to be listed above some of these that I mentioned.
While I haven't decided for sure, I think that I would like Paul Westerberg's "Good Day" to be performed at my funeral. Might change my mind on that too, though.
ROCK!

can't resist. besides, this gives me a good chance to flip through my music collection. in no particular order:
"untouchable face" - ani difranco; first ani song i ever heard, biggest impression, after many years and a sonic evolution, this is still one of my favorites.
"wish" - nine inch nails; another first, but this is what dynamic, in-your-face rock n' roll is all about.
"leather" - tori amos; not one of her best known, but a brilliant display of lyrical and musical harmony; catchy, too, which is unusual for tori
"breathe" - telepopmusik; a french electronica band that sings all in english; this is a song that just sucks you in with a lovely vocal and fabulous undulating rhythms.
"famous blue raincoat" - leonard cohen; this is everything i aspire to in my own songwriting: simple musical elegance and lyrical depth
"nightswimming" - r.e.m.; "automatic for the people" is hands down my favorite r.e.m. album, and there is something that i just connect with in this lovely meditation about the past.
"night on bald mountain" - modest musorgsky; nothing liek disney's "fantasia" to leave an impression; dynamic music that just sweeps you away.
"red bats with teeth" - angelo badalamenti; a song that builds from simple bass thrum to a sax solo to grind your teeth on. hard jazz at its best.
"my wild love" - the doors; all of jim's lyrical genius and a rhythm that will not get out of your head.
"so long frank lloyd wright" - simon and garfunkel; perhaps not the highlight of "bridge over troubled waters", but i love the way the vocal interweaves with the guitar in this tune. unexpected beauty: who would have ever thought something so captivating would come from a tune about an architect?
