OK - I really apologise James Owens - (sort of)

I have seen you name around here - I have probably reviewed you somewhere before (maybe?) - I simply don't remember...

But seeing JoS' post - I have followed him up - checking up on him...

1st observation:

"They Meet" is AWESOME. If you ever want to do something like that again - you call me to be in on it OK

NOTHING IS EVERYTHING is OK - I am not reviewing - but you do different stuff. I like that...

...i listened to other stuff....

YOUR NEW DRESS
Sensational. Not perfect - needs work...but that is an awesome song.

..anyway - thank you Jim. I had not heard much of James Owens before your your reviews.

James Owens - I hate to say it - but I think you sound a bit like me. Albeit with a different accent. Your silly songs sound like my silly songs and your seriouser songs likewise.

Let's get our people to arrange something one day. We'll do lunch.

Oh...and AJOwens - it is completely cool to just tell me to fuck off if you want to

Keith Richards does it all the time with every email I send him

Wow, bonus orthogonal reviews! Cool. Don't know why you're apologizing though. I'm the Canadian. (Sorry.)

You liked They Meet? Must be the words. . .

I think we have at least one fight in common. I remember I enjoyed something by you. I'll check out your entries when I have more time (now is not good).

And I'd be game for a collab sometime. We colonials have to stick together.

Ditto for me. I am worried this morning that my reviews are too harsh. I've thought some about that this morning. I think if I don't love it, I can't fake it. Maybe I should fake it. Maybe I should be a different kind of person. Maybe I should crawl into a cave and not subject anyone to the toxic train wreck that is me.

Anyway, really sorry if it came across mean. Caravan Ray came out with a few reviews with all kinds of gushing, and I was immediately humbled. Maybe this is why I have no friends.

Ray, I haven't forgotten, you're next. And a huge thank you to offer to also contribute orthogonal reviews. I was hoping I wouldn't be the only one. I could really get used to doing it this way. It's way fun.

Chill, dude! Don't be second-guessing yourself in this line of activity, or you'd better pull out now. Anyway I am totally cool with the fact that you are all wrong about my songs. :-)

Seriously, you did give me a lot to think about. One of the things that emerges is that I am fundamentally obscurantist. There are all sorts of hidden things going on. For example, in Sometimes It's Hard to Keep Yourself Moving, I don't know if you (or anyone) picked up on the steady chromatic descent that gets slower and slower until it just about stops. That has to do with the title, get it? I could comment on just about every song that way, and I will when I get some free time. But many of your points are well taken. I am now in the market for a decent reverb plugin, for example. Reaper has lost of echo and delay VST's, but no really smooth reverb like the one I can apply to Reason patches.

As for my cheap brass sounds, everybody can just suck it up. I don't even like brass much. -- I was looking into EastWest Orchestra (which you recommended to me some time ago), but the minimum processor requirements would cause my current ISA-sound-card-crammed PC to melt into a puddle. So that's a problem.

Even EastWest's brass is limited. I only use it in certain limited instances, again, when it sounds enough like the real thing for my taste. But EW's orchestral collections don't have any band-type brass, such as you'd want for a big band arrangement. But there are such things out there, and EW may even also sell that.

Sad to say though, if your processing power is limiting you, then you're going to be hard-pressed to find much decent that doesn't cause your puddle problem.

Check the posting times and adjust for longitude. Caravan Ray may not have been entirely sober.

I won't hold you to any rash statements you may have made at the time.

Heh! No - I was serious about collaborating some time.
And I do love a sea shanty.

I wouldn't mind getting a full set of reviews from you, Jim. I understand if you want to stick to Sockpuppet rather than doing a deep-dive through my entire oeuvre (especially the more trollish stuff).

You're next up then. Let me know which you'd rather I do, since one is 21 songs and the other is like 26. It doesn't matter to me really.

Caravan Ray is halfway done, probably couple more days for that, it's short and proving to be easy. Then you.

I've submitted 21 songs as Sockpuppet? Wow.

Anyway yes best stick to that.

I love reading all this. This is an amazing thread that I am really excited about! I have been in kind of a low place (it's my fault there is no Psychotics entry for 'Sounds Like Fun') for the past couple weeks so I've been lurksy - but the reason the last song was better-ish melody-wise (imo) is because of the reviews I believe. I did a lot of thinking after those. Song Fight reviews in general I think have helped my songwriting both alone and in collaborations a HUGE amount and I feel that in the last couple years I've improved because I've tried to listen to what people are telling me (tried being the operative word!!) :)

OK.

I'll have a crack at this.

As I said earlier - I can see from JoS's reviews that I may get something from this personally. Let's have a look at somebody else's musical journey.

Who wants to volunteer?
I wont do JoS - because I am sure he did not do this to be reciprocated.
I wont do Billy and the Psychotics - because BLT is a dick.
I won't do James Owens, because he and I share the same Phoenix core in our wands.

If you think you have had a significant musical journey while posting here - tag me - and I will go through your stuff and see what I think.

NB - I am a cunt. And my opinions are opinions. And my opinions may be out of sync with the rest of humanity.

Are you up for it?

A heartfelt congratulations to BLT and Caravan Ray, who have managed to crap up their 472nd formerly-useful thread with stupid bullshit that gets in the way of what the thread was about.

Thanks. It seems like our work is never done.
