Re: So Much Music, So Little Reviews (Universe)

Wow, "So Much Universe" ... "So Much Reviews"! Thanks. I wasn't originally going to do reviews myself, but it only seemed fair.
Berkeley Social Scene
"I was counting on forever". I really like that line. I also dig the bass. Lots of cool parts actually. Really full production. The guitar solo is very tasteful. (vote)
The Chocolate Chips
Cool! A kraut rock, psychedelic revival! The vocals could use more processing of some sort to make them more trippy. For the sake of reviews, a short taste like this is best, but if you go on with it, this kind of track works better if the groove is held for longer and sucks you in. (vote)
Holly Furlone
Great vibe and great singing. I'm not crazy about the vocal effect. Did you add reverb or is that the way you recorded it? A little drier would be nice. The beat is pretty cool and I love the harmony, too. (vote)
Inflatable Vegetables
Fun vibe. The vocals drop too low during the B section/chorus and sound a bit monotone in general.
MC oh!
Feels kinda sloppy. The chorus for instance. Hip hop works best if it has a solid groove, but this is a bit erratic.
Michael Karns and Wolf Kier
I like the feel of this track. It's very vocal driven and you do a good job, but need to continue working to really nail it. There are some parts with cool changes, but you're not really hitting the lead notes there.
Nick Soma
"Look at all the stars up in the sky even the stars up there will die." Great line. Good production overall, but I do think live drums would help if possible, they sound kinda thin.(vote)
Nobody and the No Shows
I like the lyrics. The synthy stuff in the second part is a nice touch.

Ride the Lightning, baby! Haha. Kind of a weird technique... sort of like a metal version of hip-hop, cutting up a track and screaming over it instead of talking. I like the energy of it.

Reminds me a little of Syd Barrett (who I'm a big fan of). Lyrics are interesting. Good dynamics and the chords in the verse are intersting. Production is simple, but I kinda like it. (vote)
Tuners Union
Cool mellow vibe and interesting sounds. Good pacing and timing. Abstract, trippy lyrics. I like it a lot. (vote)

I basically agree with what you guys said. The feel is cool and the instrumental performances are generally good, but sloppy at times, esp. the drums. The vocals are grating during the chorus in part because I drove them too hard, but it was also a very loose performance and not exactly nailed pitch and tone wise.
