I figure getting songs in order album-wise is a small perk for those who buy the cd :)
since the songs are available in mp3 form (however not fully mastered) on the internet for free, there's gotta be some benefit to actually buying the cd.

valid point. however, some of us would at least like to have the music and may not be able to pay for the cd. i'm in college, no job (i've been looking!) and i have a ruthless ihop addiction to feed.

if ihop's more important than my music (kidding, don't answer that) then edit the tags yerself :)

not neccessarily. i haven't figured out why, but itunes doesn't always put the tracks in order from songs ripped off a cd. maybe i'm doing something wrong. every once in a while they'll all be in order, except for the last track will be the first, or something along those lines.

are they numbering them 1- 2- etc. to 10- ? this will get them mostly in order but not quite... make it use zeroes 01- 02- etc. unless that's not at all what's happening. my main problem with itunes is that you can't configure the darn thing worth a damn.
it's so annoying, it takes control of all my mp3s and wavs every time it starts up. it has its good points but i don't want it coming up automatically every time i just want to preview a wav loop. also, when i told it to go make its library from the files on my hard drive it indexed some thousands of tapegerm wav loops. grr! a library full of 5-second samples!

You've probably got the sort order chosen weirdly. Try clicking the "Track" column when looking at an album. If you sort other ways sometimes it goes first to last by track, other times in alphabetical order, etc.

It used to be you had to make a choice. Now you would "at least" like to have the music but not pay for the CD until you feel like it. It's the least the world can do, right?

When I go to ihop I say "hey, i'd at least like to have the food, but I may not be able to pay for the meal". And they just give it to me. Because they owe me.
