Their old stuff is indeed fantastic. The Lonesome Crowded West is at least. But...I don't know, this new album kicks so much ass. I just got that Zombies reissue lots of people have been talking about. Odessy and Oracle. Fucking incredible. Now I remember why I hate the Beach Boys, because so many other people did harmonic pop with psychedelic flavor SOOOO much better minus the widespread acclaim.

After a long break I'm listening to Cat Stevens.
When I heard he gave it all up, converted to Islam and became Yusuf Islam, a teacher in a small north London school, I was stunned. I really didn't understand. Listening now with fresh ears and a few years hindsight I understand better, though I'm still a tad bemused.

The albums I love and highly recommend are all early (I was turned on to him by an ancient relative):
'Tea for the Tillerman' 1970
'Mona Bone Jackon' 1970
'Foreigner' 1972
'Catch Bull at four' 1973'

Check him out. You might not know him, but you'll know his songs; a lot of which were used in the cult (and totally brilliant) film 'Harold and Maud'. If you haven't seen it go and buy it now (it'll save you the cost of a rental).

Over the weekend I was looking through the bargain vinyl bin and found a record by the "Silicon Teens", and it had an interesting enough cover, song listing, and instrumentation (2 synthesizers, drum machine and vocals) for me to purchase it for 3 bucks....

...And oh man, this is amazing! It's basically 80's lo-fi synthpop versions of classic 50s and 60s rock and roll songs ('Doo-Wah-Diddy Diddy', 'Let's Dance', 'Just Like Eddie')...I wish this act still existed. I would love to have them play a party or something. I don't know what it is...I just love them...

Just saw them live at Ohayocon 5. They rocked. I got that CD signed by both brothers.

Steve Conte is famous for singing Yoko Kanno songs (Rain, Words That We Couldn't Say, Call Me Call Me, Stray, and more) in Cowboy Bebop, Wolf's Rain, and elsewhere. He's an excellent singer and a really awesome guy.

I'd say this album is a solid B. It ain't original, but it does have groove, unfortunately it gets tired after a few listens. I'll try it again in a few weeks...

please, tell me you know how to find it. i've looked all over 3 different PvPs and haven't been able to track it down... except for a couple tracks on soulseek, but the individuals queue was ridiculous and i would've still been waiting for them to download.
