jack wrote:hey albatross, i just want to say i'm diggin your version of "my sharona", as the bass, guitar, and drums are all pretty kickin. nice job to boltoph, but also your bass is kick ass as always!
Glad you enjoy it, Jack. And that goes for you too, Bill! As far as the vocals go, yeah, they're all me. The whole song is me except for Bolt's extended 64-bar guitar lead.

The excessive verb is coming from the room, perhaps I need to see about treating it acoustically, or maybe making one of those makeshift phonebooth dealies. But in the end, I guess I figured if the vox are going to sound like that, I shouldn't break my neck over mixing them. You know what they say you can't polish...

Plus, I can't sing for squat anyway - which is one of the reasons I don't normally record solo.

The bass tone is courtesy of IK's Ampeg SVX bass amp modeler. It's the shit.

In, at long last. Sorry for the delay, sausage boy. I'm just not one of nature's drummers, heh.

Enjoy!

Re: Gift of Music

Was it known to anyone else that Veruca Salt did a cover of My Sharona? And now a My Sharona cover is right above a Veruca Salt cover? Quelle coincidence.

I procrastinated until rather past the last minute, but I hope you can empathize. Hope you're still excited. Here's the link until it's posted on the site.

omg, that is brilliant, I was really sceptical about a cover being as good as the original and that has been totally blown out of the water. Thankyou so much!

So I was thinkin', which is a rarity for me, but I wonder what would happen if, when you entered, you had to list all the volunteer coverfights that you promised a song for and then failed to come through. Probably people would just lie. It'd be nice, though, if people like Phil got someone reliable for a change. I mean, this is supposed to be like a holiday present.

For the convenience of all, I have compiled the following list. It illustrates what you might get as a Christmas gift and how you should feel:
 • Coal in stocking: Sad
 • Charcoal in stocking: Slightly less sad
 • A good song: Happy

That was an empty threat- I will still post the songs that come in, and I'm sorry you got screwed (yet again) I don't know who your gifter is, that top-secret part is all Niveous... Perhaps we should start a songfight blacklist thread for people who don't come through on songs... I had hoped this year would be different, but it seems every year gets worse with people not doing it on time or at all. It really pisses me off to the point where I may not even be a part of it anymore, which is a shame...

Yeah, no offense to Eddie or Niv, who work very hard to put this together each year, but The Hell Yeahs will be boycotting the next GOM. Three years straight with no gift is ridiculous. I think a black list might be a good idea. I'm gonna PM Niveous and ask him to tell me who owes us a song.

To all of you who might try to say that I shouldn't be angry, etc., don't bother. Phil and I have every right to be angry. We've been on time every year and have never let a giftee down. Last year I was sick and couldn't sing my John Lennon song. But, Phil came through for my giftee. Neither of us has ever gotten a gift of music in return. Sure, other songfighters have stepped in to cover our song choices so we would get something and we greatly appreciate that, but we have never received a GOM from someone who was actually assigned our names.

Yep. I'll stop ranting for now, but I'm pissed.

Crap.

Everyone is right. This is our holiday celebration and we have this many missing. It's a bloody shame.

We are still waiting on:
Bjam
JB
Roymond
Wreckdom
Ken
Wormsweater
Egg
15-16 Puzzle
TVIYH

Still waiting for a gift:
Jim Tyrrell
Rabid Garfunkel
Albatross
JB
Ken
15-16 Puzzle
Glenn Case
Jim of Seattle
The Hell Yeahs

TVIYH had a death in the family, so I think he gets a pass right now. (If anyone thinks otherwise, screw you.) I look at the rest of the scragglers and wonder WTF???

Wormsweater- you were just in the It Belongs To Me fight. You had the time to do a song for yourself recently but you left someone else in the lurch. That's low.

It's not like the scragglers are noobs like in other years. These are SF heavy hitters. I have no idea what is going on. The coverfight went wrong. The Hall & Oates fight went to sleep. And now this. Yet still, I keep hearing from people that they can't wait for the next Nur Ein. ???

*shakes his head*

To whom it concerns:

I have been slowly piecing things together and continue to strive to finish up...this week. I have no one to blame and I won't make up shit but I did over extend myself this season so I will, again, appologize to my giftee. Not only have I not worked on any other music (SF or otherwise) during the GOM period but I haven't yet even listened to my gift from the responsible soul who completed it.

I don't know about the other slackers but my schedule this year has been pretty insane and music and all things in the form of "personal" pursuits has taken the hit. My weekends are devoted to catching up with my my wife and kids who I don't see from Sunday night through Saturday morning.

So, I guess thats my excuse, though I didn't mean to sob publicly about my regrets.

I had noticed this, and felt terrible about it.

I did accomplish my assigned GoM, but I was hoping to have also covered a song from your list by now. I've had a busy week and a half. Making the music for Captain S has taken up part of that time, as well as a few other obligations with deadlines. Today, the Half Racks are even going to have our first rehearsal that we've had in a few months.

In short, while I can't make any promises for sure, I am hoping to try to tackle a Redmon request on Thursday or Friday.

ROCK!

Hey guys,
We've never been late for this type of thing before and I am very sorry to our giftee for the delay. I'll spare you my soap opera explanation as we all know life events, creative blockage, and procrastination can all play a part and say our absence was not meant as an insult.
In the past ten days we've spent hours and hours working on our song and sometimes not working on it and resting the ears as you have to do that to. We've been hard at work and my official expectation is that the mp3 will be rendered tonight. I'll post a link in this thread to expidite our giftee hearing it. Afterwards, I'll try to convince Colin to cover one of The Hell Yeah's songs too.
Sorry again for being a slackass no count, but wrapping it up just for the sake of wrapping it up didn't feel right. What you'll hear very soon will be 100% completed.

I've got myself into a lot of recording projects coming up, but I'm ready to step up on a Hell Yeahs gift if need be. They deserve it. Phil did a rockin' Generals And Majors for me a year or two ago.
