You could always do multiple versions for your giftee, one with Cynthia, one with you, one with a guest vocalist, etc. etc.

That's EGG-ZACK-LEE what I was going to say! I would love to hear both versions myself, regardless of whether you have my songs or not. I'm not sure I've ever heard Cynthia vs Nigel before. :)

Hey folks,

I've been running around getting the Purple Reign off the ground but I don't want you guys to be neglected. I know I still have a few music requests to get to. So I'm putting out a call. If you need to get a hold of a song for the GoM, speak now. And hopefully, I can get through all the requests by the end of the weekend.

My group finished a decent version of the song I was assigned, but we can definitely do better. We're going to have a great song before the due date.

How's everybody doing? I am starting to do my homework on the song I've known for a couple of months that I'd be doing. I may unintentionally wreck it, but it's a perfect fit. What's up, pee-oples-this is coming up.
Bringin' the stink since 2006.

Due date is the 10th - but don't you think doing a whole song for your goatee is a bit much?

Dude, I could write a whole movie about my goatee.

I am still debating on whether to completely re-write the song or to attempt to cover it in the traditional sense. Two of my options really require a full band, so I think those are out. Two other ones could probably be converted to guytar, but I am still thinking of just using the lyrics and writing a whole new melody because that will work better solo. Chances are, I'll be going with the re-write option.

I'm using a bass that I received as a Christmas present.

I'm 32, I have my own house, and I probably have more money than my parents.. but they still buy me toys for Christmas. I should sell the damn thing and use the money to buy shoes for my kids, or something.

Nah, I'll use it for Songfight.

Got one done in an almost typical me-ish style, and am wrestling with another, not sure that'll come to fruition though.

Hmmm. Eddie never did give me an address to send everything, did he? Okay, in the meantime, if you are done and are hankering to send your stuff in you can send them to: werewolf.town @ gmail.

I'd only do that if the original didn't have much in the way of chords or melody in the first place. If the original was a rap over a beat, without even basslines or samples of music with chords in it, then I'd write my own music. Otherwise I'd at least attempt to re-use the original musical ideas in some fashion. But maybe that's just me.

I've heard you do a GnG arrangements of a song that was originally full band (your entry in the VU coverfight). I think I even voted it.

Yeah...though I did change the tune, what I feel was, a significant amount...though probably not as much as Everclear changed "Brown Eyed Girl". :)

We'll see what happens over the next 8 days!

The link to your song in the VU fight now appears to be broken, so I can't go back and listen to it for comparison, but ISTR that even though you changed it. you kept enough of the chords that it was within the bounds of what I could consider "arrangement". If you stick with that approach, it should be *all right*.

Your earlier post here made it sound like you were going to take the lyrics and pretend you never heard the music.
