Any room with an occupancy load of 50 or more requires two exits. Since this room has only one door, the occupancy can be assumed to be 49 or less. Actual allowable occupancy varies by jurisdiction and use.

In Massachusetts, however, standing room requires 3 sf per person, which would come to 192, so that can't be it.

Concentrated Seating requires 7, or 82, so that can't be the designation either.

Unconcentrated Seating requires 15 sf per person, or 38 total, which is less than 50, so that is my prediction as to the occupancy load.

btw, I am in no way critisizing the selection of this space on a standby last-resort basis. You gotta do what you gotta do. I am just trying to provide data. Expectations may hafta change.

That sounds realistic- we could fit more but it would start to get concentrated pretty quickly.

Yah, this is still on stand-by and apparently I can cancel it free-of-charge as late as 48 hours before. While I certainly don't want to do that, I am still trying to improve the situation and will keep y'all posted. In the mean time I am trying to ignore the data because I want everything to work out perfectly.

Of the last four places I visited, hoping to talk to someone there about renting their venue, one had been condemned and another was already in the process of being demolished. (I even gave some serious thought to trying to contact the owner of the former, but even my lack of realism has its limits.) But I persevere, mainly with the help of prescription drugs, and there are still buildings that I haven't been to yet.

Please help me!

Post by Future Boy »

This is a plea for help to any Songfighters who live in Boston.

Let me begin by explaining my old plan:

Go to SFL: Boston. Stay with a friend of mine for a little over a week and attend his band's show while I am there. At the end of my stay with him get on a plane in Boston and fly to San Jose.

Here's what's gone wrong:

My friend has totally flaked on me and said he will pretty much be unavailable and that I should move my flight.

However, if I move my flight, poor jack shite will have to put up with my ass for nearly two weeks in Santa Cruz before we go to Burning Man. I don't want to subject him to that. Also, I don't want to have to pay extra fees to reschedule my flight. And I can't afford to stay in a hotel for that long.

Are any of you willing to give me a place to crash in Boston from August 11th through 20th? All I need is a couch to sleep on, an internet connection, and food of some kind within walking distance (grocery stores count). We could collab on some music while I'm there even.

PM me if you think you can help out.

Ok, I've got the following flights on hold:

Arriving in Boston at Logan Airport on Fri 8-12 at 2:30pm

Leaving Sun 8-14 at 7:15pm

Now, my purchasing of these tickets is dependant upon lodging and local travel arrangements. Basically, I just need a ride to and from the airport, or at least a definite destination to take a cab to. I imagine someone else is arriving at a similar time, perhaps we could share transportation?

Of course, I'd compensate anyone for any trouble. I'd rent a car, but I'm only 20.

So, I really need to secure a roommate and a buddy with a vehicle by tomorrow, which is how long these tickets are on hold for before I lose them.

I'll post this on the other board, too.

Ugh, now I'm committed to going but of course the tickets for the flight the rest of Octothorpe is taking have gone up to like $820/person. There's tickets for as cheap as $350 but they're all with America Worst. Meh.

Priceline is a bit too 'here is the ticket you got, suck it up' for my tastes. I was going through cheaptickets though.

Ok, so it's looking more and more that I'll be going to this bonanza. Not sure THC is coming, but I'm gonna go. If not to play then to support and meet all you crazy SFers. I was worried about my work sitch and that I might be booked, but it looks as though I won't be and that I'll be off to Miami and Puerto Rico the following week. Cool. First SF live. Hopefully I can hang out at B's cottage or wherever he's house sitting.

Hey, glad to hear it, man.
I have shows booked that Friday and Saturday, and I'm in contact with a couple local musicians who (hopefully) should be able to cover them. At worst, I'd have to skip the friday festivities and make a day trip of it on Saturday. But I'm still really shooting for a full weekend.

Confirmed..I'll be staying in Lynnfeild. It looks like it's reletavily cheap to fly from Tampa to Boston. Less than $200 even. With choices. Not bragging or anything...believe me...my Seattle trip was way expensive, I'm just relieved is all.

I MAY need some help getting around. My cousin works but has said that she'd be willing to drive me to and from the airport and into town. I just don't know how her schedule will be. Do busses run up there? (I'll do some homework)

"Real" venue secured. Capacity approx. 180 so you will have to ask Hoblit extra nice if you want to sit in his lap anyways. It is across the street from a Holiday Inn which may help make lodging less complicated. Details tonight when I get home.

Okay. Now that I actually have some of what used to be my money in the hands of a real place that really is willing to let us have a real big show, I am finally confident enough to spill some details. Both "main" shows will take place at the Somerville City Club, conveniently located in THE CITY OF LOVE, at 20 Innerbelt Road, Somerville, MA. Their main function room comfortably holds close to two hundred people, so feel free to invite everyone you happen to know. Admittance is FREE and ALL-AGES, and the room comes with its own cash bar and cash bartender, which is the best of both worlds, speaking alcoholically.

Plenty of parking and easy to drive to (right off 93), and directly on a couple of bus routes. Also within a mile or so of the practice space and the afternoon venue. I will put up some better maps soon on the other board, but if you look at the "Lodging & Travel" thread there, you will see a big map, and the site is in the top right hand corner of the map.

SAVE SOME MONEY! If you need a hotel room, I strongly urge you to at least consider The Holiday Inn Hotel Boston/Somerville. This hotel is directly across the street from the club- it would make a great place to stay. They apparently have an agreement with the club: Tell them that you are in town for a function at the City Club and ask for their discount rate. Tell 'em that Roy McDonald sent you. He's the guy who runs the club and he told me that the hotel would offer rooms at about $80 per night. This ain't chump change but it is a pretty damn good deal for this part of the world.

I will do some consolidating and updating and stuff, and get all the important information together soon.
