A former employer of mine who owns store contacted me the other day, out of the blue to see if I'd be interested in making a few extra $ on the side.
So I'm like, "umm...YAH. Who doesn't want a few extra $?"
So he proceeds to tell me that he has a buddy, who knows a guy, who has set himself up with a dude who records new movies in the cinemas for illegal DVD release. My former employer wondered if I might be interested in looking after "distribution" for my part of the world and Quebec? With a caveat which he mentioned in a hushed whisper, "but you know, these things are eleeegal...so it has to be hush/hush..."
wow...
So he goes on to give me the "close", which is that he just finished watching The Incredibles on DVD and it looked/sounded awesome. And isn't that cool how it's still in the theatre and he had it on DVD already?
umm.....duh? I'm sure I saw this movie on one of a zillion torrent sites for....let me count now....ummm....FREE?!?
as IF I'm gonna drive all over hell's half acre trying to sell illegal DVD movies to video stores or buddy's to make a few spare bucks, when everyone can go get them for free online....
I guess this isn't that funny, more stupid than anything. I couldn't believe it when he asked me....like, that's JUST what I want to do...jeapordize my real job and family by getting into something like this.... sheesh. I'm not against grabbin' free media content online once in awhile, but this is just trouble asking for more trouble... With the current climate of media and industry focus on copyright infringement and illegal use/sharing of media, this seems like a stupid ass thing to do. Which makes it a stupid ass thing to ask.
