That was interesting, but I'm conflicted... they find this massive, amazing ant colony, and... fill it with concrete. "Let's see how these creatures operate, by exterminating them!"

The farmer whose land it was on was going to exterminate the colony anyway, and he figured it'd be a good chance to help with science.

Also, they're ants. There's plenty more where those came from.

The point I was *trying* to make was that depending on your perspective, they're NOT "just ants", they're highly organized, possibly sentient creatures. If it was a den of kittens that got concreted, would it make a difference?
Did you actually hit yourself in the face with that knee-jerk reaction?

And my point is that the farmer was extermitaing them anyway. They are not citizens with the right to vote. Their form of intelligence is very basic. There is mo demonstrable concept of identity or history or anything else which conveys sentience. They were not tortured or abused, they were simply killed, and afterwards their home was filled with concrete.

There is a huge fucking difference between what Hitler did to *my relatives* (and fellow human beings) and this.

The long and short of it is, you seem to have the attitude that just because it's a bunch of ants, it's okay to wipe out an entire civilization of them. You either don't like them, or think of them as insignificant, and have put no value on their lives. I'm not saying they're insignificant or worthless, just that they were going to be exterminated anyway, because that's what you do with giant ant colonies which are beneath farmland. So while they were doing that, the fact that after they exterminated the colony they added concrete to take advantage of it for scientific study is a reasonable thing to do.

And I am saying that humans systematically killing their own kind (which, by the way, ants do too!) for stupid and petty reasons is a very different thing, and it's a false comparison, and reducing each exterminated Jew to be just as worthless as a single ant is an extremely crass thing to do. (And then you further try to separate things by putting "your relatives" in quotes, as if it's not actual relatives - perhaps somewhat distant, but not by that far - who were rounded up into concentration camps and tortured.)

I knew you were just making a dumb joke to begin with but words mean things, and there are cultural contexts which you just plain DO NOT MAKE FUN OF. Like, you probably shouldn't go into a predominantly black neighborhood and make jokes about slavery, especially not, say, equating slaves with farm animals. It's just not cool to do that.
