Ha! I don't think I've made more than a passing reference to songfight to any of my co-workers, but I'm sure they could just look at my artist name and figure out it was me haha. And thanks! I'd say I was going to invest the extra pay into music equipment but it's probably all going towards childcare expenses :/ oh well, means my wife gets a break from relentless toddler chasing!

Re: My Life
I've been asked to play guitar and bass in my old band's 25th Anniversary / singer's 50th Birthday party gig thing.
This is exciting, except I have to remember/relearn how to play a bunch of songs I haven't played for 12 years, upside down.
Wish me luck, eh?

I believe in you! I hope it wasn't like technical death metal or anything, relearning those may be hard.

Gosh. I’d love to hear a Steinbecks take on death metal. Were you playing upside down bass that whole time back then?gizo wrote: ↑Tue Jan 14, 2020 5:41 pmThank goodness! The band is 'The Steinbecks', if you're interested. I was playing along between 2002-2007 roughly.

Bass or guitar, depending on the song. Always upside down.crumpart wrote: ↑Wed Jan 15, 2020 12:22 amGosh. I’d love to hear a Steinbecks take on death metal. Were you playing upside down bass that whole time back then?

Re: My Life
Hmmm..I don't recall you guys unfortunately. Did you play in Sydney? 2002-2005 I was a regular around the Surrey Hills/Newton dens of iniquity. I'm sure I would have gone to see a band with such a superbly pretentious name if you were playing the Hopetoun!! After 2005 I went and lived on an atoll in the middle of the Pacific - so the gig going stoppedgizo wrote: ↑Tue Jan 14, 2020 5:41 pmThank goodness! The band is 'The Steinbecks', if you're interested. EDIT....shit - no I am older than that. It was 1992-95 I was drunk in Sydney. 2002-2005 I was running an alpaca farm on the Gold Coast. So no - I would not have seen you. Unless you played kids shows at Wet'n'Wild.

We stayed in Melb when I played. The guys would’ve been through Sydney and Newcastle in the late 90’s, and earlier than that as The Sugargliders.Caravan Ray wrote: ↑Wed Jan 15, 2020 2:16 amHmmm..I don't recall you guys unfortunately. I want to hear more about this! I love alpacas. But I also went to help at an alpaca shearing once and it was NIGHTMARISH.Caravan Ray wrote: ↑Wed Jan 15, 2020 2:16 am2002-2005 I was running an alpaca farm on the Gold Coast.
(also gizo i checked out the band on Spotify last night when I was driving and really dug it... they only had something up from 2014, so I guess after your time, but still I'm guessing they didn't vastly transform their sound. Good luck relearning everything!)

Re: My Life
We admitted a possum tonight at the wildlife center where I volunteer, and it weighed 19 POUNDS (8.72 kg) and was the biggest possum I have ever seen!!!! I later looked up "how much does a possum weigh" on Wikipedia and the upper weight limit listed there was 14 lbs. It is so big it may have to be moved to the eagle cage, and it physically doesn't fit inside the little plastic igloo we normally give them to hide in.
Other fun facts I incidentally just learned from Wikipedia about possums:
Other fun facts I incidentally just learned from Wikipedia about possums:
- they have 13 nipples, arranged in a circle of 12 with 1 in the middle. Almost like the Betsy Ross flag, but not quite!
- here is one of the representative graphics on the Wikipedia page, "Virginia opossum inhabiting a piano in Houston, Texas, shortly before its release"

Re: My Life
We have some fat possums 'round here. But not sure how many are THAT fat. Probably none that I've seen. Scrawny bastards. I'm not a huge fan but I appreciate the dent in the tick population they make when they are around. We did have a "pet" adolescent possum named Steve for a while like nine or ten years ago. Okay, technically it just slipped in through a crack in house and scared the crap out of the wife and kids for a few days while I was out of town. But he was a regular until I got back and closed up his entryway. I wonder whatever happened to 'ol Steve.

I love possums, but I'd be pretty upset if I found a surprise possum in the house too. I hope Steve went off and ate a lot of ticks somewhere else eventually.

Re: My Life
Big week. We had to call quits on our potential house purchase as the vendor's solicitor is a bullshit artist. Thankfully, throughout this process we have learned the value of having good legal representation, and the solicitor we chose mostly at random has turned out to be excellent.
That leaves us approximately two weeks to find a new rental house in a country going through a severe rental housing crisis. Yay. Plus we want an unfurnished house, which are as rare as hen's teeth here. One that will let us have a dog please.
In good news, I randomly resubmitted my Upwork application again today and finally, FINALLY made it through their bot authentication system, so now I can do more freelance illustration and design work. Maybe it was uploading all my songfight cover submissions to my folio that got me through...

Oh noooo, I'm so sorry to hear that. Coincidentally, my husband and I were just watching this show on Netflix last night that was full of people cheating each other over real estate...
Good luck figuring out the rental situation in time. And congrats on the Upwork thing!
