The remake argument is like so many other art-rips-off-art arguments. Peter Sellers died and distribution of his movies has dropped considerably in this country, perhaps due to shifts in tastes but more likely promotion of the crap that is produced now needs to make back some of its production costs. But Steve Martin has brought back a beloved character and as a result not only do my kids love it (and that hamburger scene is hilarious in context), but they've now seen 5 of the Peter Sellers movies and love those.
If movie remakes were banned, what's next? Song covers? OMG!

Yes - you are absolutely right of course. But I am a cranky old man who has just seen another ad on telly for the awful Life On Mars and The Office remakes which NZ television insists of showing instead of the real ones, and I have a spleen to vent. Mind you, none of this would happen if young people today would just learn to pull their pants up properly and join the army.

Inspector Clouseau was Peter Sellers' character. Kind of sacred territory, IMHO. Any remake of that, even by someone like Steve Martin (and I have mixed feelings about him to begin with) is a cheap and unnecessary rip-off. From the few clips I've seen of this movie, I'm going to give it a pass.
Here's an idea: why don't filmmakers try to come up with new and interesting ideas rather than cheesily re-hashing old stuff?
but piano aside - the funniest thing about that is still that dick saying "...finding no WMDs was a disappointment..."...WTF!?!?!?!? (actually, funniest is not really the right word...I don't know what is the right word....a million dead Iraqis are not laughing)
I wish more people made these. It's a really well done interactive adventure/murder mystery. Pretty easy to win, actually, but I enjoyed it all the same, and there's a few endings depending on what actions you take.
