*blinks* so it is. That's really weird. I just uploaded it Thursday.

And btw, I was half-joking in case the whole head exploding thing wasn't a clue. :P

By the way, dre, I'm floored. Thank you. Also I ran into an Anti-m cover on youtube of a song I honestly never thought was that great (Too Far Away), and she did an amazing job with it (maybe I should just start writing for other people?). Thank you both, it means a lot.

Okie so it's been 9 days since I re-uploaded Internet Recording Superstar (the link in the post above this one). Did anybody listen to it? I really want at least 1 honest opinion.

I just listened at your request. I like the lyrical idea... but I wish the execution was more biting. Like, try to express your point more artistically or poetically. Otherwise, the music was okay and your voice seems best suited to nerdcore rather than straight rap. But, I mostly don't like rap/hiphop/nerdcore. Perhaps that is why others did not comment? 4/10

It sounds like everything you want it to be, and I'm positive that no feedback will affect that in any way.

Internet Recording Superstar

Post by MC Eric B »

The problem is that your beat is just a beat and not really a song. It doesn't seem to have a chorus or any other type song structure. So, that makes it kind of boring. Also, because you wrote your song with a chorus (like it should) it sounds much of the time like you are just singing/rapping over background music, but the singing/rapping does not go exactly with the music. It is not that you are off the beat, it is just the beat seems separate from your vocals.

People have all sorts of negative things like that to say about my nerdcore songs, so I am probably not a good person to give advice, but since you seemed eager for reviews I figured I would add my two cents.

I don't care for this kind of music, so I'll just offer my opinion on how to make it more hooky to your many fans.

#1. Try to blend the vox with the same FX that the background music has so that it sounds like it's coming from the same environment. IE: reverb, delay, ambiance, etc.

#2. Make the repeated verses/chorus more memorable. IE: double vox, background vox. If I were producing this song, I would have you back up your chorus vox in a different key, then dub in crowd cheers to help paint the image of an Internet superstar. On the main verses, I'd double the voice like "Too Short" always does. It's a simple trick to fatten up thin vox.

#3. Add a couple more instruments randomly through the song so that the background music doesn't sound so sterile. IE: any one or all of the following, shaker, percussions, tambourine, wood block and of course cow bell. A random cow bell dropped in somewhere unexpected is a wonderful thing, lol.

There you go MC Maca Rone'. Now if you do everything I just suggested, you truly will become an Internet Superstar.

Wow, thank you guys. Some very constructive ideas you have for me. I'm planning to do At the Arcade for next week's SF so I'll try to take these tips and run with them.

I like it Blue! I keep trying to register at SS but it fucks me up every time.
Bring the vox up and fade the ending out better. But other than than that, it's awesome.

edit: it works now. I voted.

Not a totally new song, but I think it's new to everyone here. "My Robot Buddy" was a FAWM entry from '07. I was wondering if anyone could record real drums for it...or at least better electronic ones :-)

Some of you expressed an interest in hearing the 'dub' album that I made as background music for an art exhibition, so here you go. I cut 4 songs from the full playlist, to make 10 tracks, 42 minutes, dub/reggae/skank influenced mainly instrumental pop, some new, some 'versions' re-worked from my 'catalogue'. Probably best to listen while you're doing something else. Or stoned out of your gourd. When it sounds tremendous. Allegedly.
