OK, so, dates. Let's get the process started of trying to figure out some dates. I'm ready to start contacting the Berkeley venue from a few years ago to see if they have availability. What works for folks? It looks like we've most commonly had it in August, which also I personally prefer, but it's been in July a bunch too, and sometimes June or September. We're going to aim for two nights, Friday and Saturday night.
All good. Any where between June and sept should be fine for me.

June 12-13 is no good for me, because I'll be traveling for a wedding. The surrounding weekends probably aren't ideal either, but I could make them work. I don't know of any other conflicts right now.
I'm also attending a wedding on these dates! Presumably not the same one, unless my sister is secretly booking Vowl Sounds to play the reception.

Doubtful that I'll be able to make it anyway but I'll keep an eye on the thread, you never know.

I'm waiting for my brother to figure out when he's traveling, since I generally rely on him for lodging and also would like him to actually make it to one of these heckin' shows again. (Last time he managed to make it was back in 2005! Since he lived in Boston at the time.)

We’re not going to repeat that hot, steaming, “look out the rock stars are in town” den of vice we had in Portland?

Okay so my (brother's) constraints are:
  • Not on June 13-14 (so no EIEBC day revival)
  • Not on July 4 weekend (not that it was likely to be then)
  • Not on July 27-28

Waiting on tenterhooks for a date to be set so I can coerce Lucky Witch and the Righteous Ghost to travel across the country.

June 20 might be bad for me too, pending gig.

I'm happy to see you posting here again. But ... vague cryptic statements like that are not really super duper helpful. Could you maybe provide some details behind why you would say that? Is it due to conflicts with your own plans that month? Or do you know something about the world's impending doom the rest of us don't? :P

Shush Sam. At roymonds age, it’s good to get anything out of him.

Yes. We are listening Roy!!

Got a place to land in East East Bay; Berkeley would be great (as long as I can get a latte at Cafe Milano, among other memory pleasures).

Are we suddenly going to call Berkeley "San Francisco?" There was some ire over that last time someone did that.

Where was the thing 20 years ago? SF or Berkely? Is there really a difference? Like Ipswich isn’t really Brisbane and Penrith isn’t Sydney - but, for all intents and intensive purposes - they are.

The thing in 2001 was in SF, as was the thing in 2010. The thing in 201...6? was in Berkeley. They share a common metro area.

Nuh. Just googled. Berkeley is only 18 km from SF!! It is virtually an inner suburb! Ipswich is 40 km from Brisbane - but no one ever pretends it’s a seperate city anymore (unless you want to distance yourself from the redneck white supremicists who live there)

I mean I don't particularly care about the distinction, just saying that for some people it matters A Lot.

There were words exchanged in 2016 regarding this. Not naming any parties involved.

For me just saying "SF Bay Area" makes it so that can mean whatever. The thing is it's likely going to be much easier for us to have it in Berkeley or Oakland. Part of why we thought that was because of how well things went last time in Berkeley. Sadly it seems like we're dealing with a new/different person at that venue so now it's not clear what our prospects are there. There is another space that we go to an event (Instant Band Night) at regularly that would be a great fit but we'd have to rent it and it would be a "private" event in the sense that only people we got to come would be there (no built-in crowd or walk-ins or neighborhood regular types, like at the Berkeley venue). We'll keep looking for other options.

I don't know if I was involved in any kibbitzing about SF vs Berkeley last time. Could be. I don't really care that much about it. If I'm seeing a show at the Greek Theater in Berkeley or the Fox in Oakland and the band says "Hello San Francisco!" I just roll my eyes, I don't get up and walk out or anything. :P

Here in the Washington, D.C. area we live in the "DMV"-- which stands for the DC, Maryland, Northern Virginia area. Every article about our food scene is inevitably at least half-full of restaurants in Maryland or Virginia, and not actually in DC. :P
