Re: Tell me about that honest politician (Mythical Creature reviews)
Whooo, I did it! And it's not even half as many songs as in Nur Ein XV Round Zero. I do not envy those judges.
Sweeney Toad: Kinda reminds me of "The Stroke" to start. Intro's a little long though. Hitting some genre bias for me but actually the MCs have good flow. When the chorus comes back, I realize that's the chorus, and it's a little underwhelming. I wish the chorus were more exciting.
Tim Hinkle: Interesting instrumentation. It's a little hard to hear the voice in the "verses". I'm on headphones and the guitar in my left ear is dominating the sound. The "chorus" sounds nice though. Ooh, I really like the part after the third "verse", with the acoustic guitar and shaker. I like the lyrics and the story you're telling.
toby roktot: Fine guitar playing and singing. For me on headphones the guitar and vocals being panned off to the sides is a little distracting. The guitar playing gets a little too smashy smashy for me in the end. I don't love the guitar's tone, sounds like maybe it was plugged in not mic'd? Decent guy-and-guitar song overall.
WreckdoM: Very WreckdoM. I like the weird sax bleets. Kinda short though.

These two were just to differentiate between entries. I think there should be a rule that the same band name can't have two entries (because of a voting issue.)sleepysilverdoor wrote: ↑Mon May 11, 2020 6:27 pmPork Producer Jr: Is there a conceptual difference between these monikers, or is it just how you differentiate between multiple entries in a fight?

Hostess Mostess - You know I really like your entries. Usually, some of the best.
This song is also very good but, it just didn’t seem to get past the intro. I kept waiting for the driving groove to blast out.
The song is definitely something to expand on.
Great sound, as always.
Phlebia - The intro is good. Maybe a few bars too long.
I like this...(think Arte Johnson) “...very interesting”
I can see you on a concert poster...featuring...
Sparks
B-52s
Thomas Dolby
Phlebia
Oingo Boingo
Pere Ubu. July 4th Festival in the Park ..... be there !!!!
Tim Hinkle - Lots of cool things happening here. Love the lyrics.
I can actually picture the story playing out in Granny’s library. ...”Who ya gonna call?”
I think this is one of the better entries this week.
Tim, you have a pleasing voice (wife’s words, I agree). Just a thought, and I’m no expert, but it seems you may be singing below your range (at least on this song).
Notwithstanding that, a strong entry....Vote !!
Wreckdom - Hey Wreck, is your last name ‘Fairbrass’? Cause I’m sure you are Right Said Fred slummin’ it here with us wanna be’s.
Seriously, this is a lot of fun and I can just see the cuties (sorry, #metoo) from RSF videos singin’ back up...” Fish-Puppydog, Fish-Puppydog”
Great job entertaining....and, after all, that’s the point !!!
Thanks for this...vote !
Amby Moho - Another really fun song. Soooo Sgt Peppery. Liking the cross speaker thingy, too.
I could have listened longer. How about a live version about 10 mins long?
Seriously, good stuff.
Shrts - Love this....My kinda stuff !!!
In the good ole days, we would lay down 15 tracks like this on one side of the Lp...ONE SIDE !!!
Nothing I don’t like about this. Strong first place consideration, imho, however, will never get past the status quo...
Vote...vote...vote....
Ok, who’s left ?
Toby Roktot....not worth mentioning...
Anyone else? No? Ok, cya...
WAIT A DOGGONE MINUTE....Found one..
Sober - Before I even listen to this for review (did hear them all on Buffo’s deal) let me warn you Sober, I’m pulling out all my technical expertise so, you’ve been notified !!!
(about 3:39 mins later)
I would compare this with Mumford and Sons but, I think it’s better than that. Should be M&S compared to Sober !!
Thanks for not being here for a few years. Gave the rest of ‘them’ (them, not me) a chance for weekly glory.
Nothing I don’t like here. Production, music, lyrics....esp. “not every song was meant to rhyme” and “...heart break on a wave”.
Pure Grammy shit !!! (That’s my technical)
Listen Sober, after my punk days, I toured with some pretty good CBGB (Country,Blue Grass &Blues) bands, and this is as good as any of them. Seriously. Radio ready...move over Shrts, we have a winner !!!
Thank you, and as ‘Hillbilly’ would say, “This goes right to my blue tooth”
Cya,
Toby
WOW, some seriousLy good stuff this week. I think most of you are waaaay beyond “try not to suck”...right Lunk?

man i've always wanted to try making kids music but i'm really bad at writing kid friendly stuff.sleepysilverdoor wrote: ↑Mon May 11, 2020 6:27 pmSweeney Toad: My wife says the sung part reminds her of this one guy Jack Hartmann who does kids videos on YouTube. Only I don’t think he ever writes songs about Adderall and siphoning gas outside of Texaco. Your flow is really good as usual, and you’ve got this particular style of evoking completely ridiculous imagery that I like. I still wanna do something with you at some point...I’ll just have to find time to make it happen!

Congrats Gross Tones.
I took feedback from those who wrote notes, as well as some offline music production folks. Tweaked the mix, added harmony, and took my new tuning plugin for a spin. Makes a world of difference (though I could only fix my poor performance so much). Thanks y'all!
Decided "Break on a Wave" fits the song better than Mythical Creature. So shall it be known henceforth.
