We’ve been doing a little bit of chat over on the discord about our songs the past few days.

Here’s my Saguaro, which I correctly guessed was supplied by Lichen Throat.

https://drive.google.com/file/d/15WNVb8 ... p=drivesdk

I didn’t get an optional challenge, so I did the one that I gave out, which was to build a bassline from the melody of a Kylie Minogue song. It was a super fun optional challenge; thanks me!

Edit, I've just uploaded to soundcloud as well:

(I hope you’re doing ok Jon P…)

I was offered the following titles:
98% Sure
A Man About a Horse

Here's my take on 98% Sure.

I was offered the following optional challenges, but didn't manage to get either of them into the lyrics:
Lyrics feature at least two named characters
Implied rhyme/Subvert the expectation of a rhyme

I was offered the following titles and challenges.

Candy Cigarettes
Optional challenge: Make it a little too commercial

Too Many Miles
Optional challenge: Old-Timey Pop

I went with too many miles. I listened to some early 60's pop and think I wrote some music that would have worked that style but it ended up more like what I would do so challenge was probably a fail. *shrug*

Here’s mine. ‘Screaming at inanimate objects’ with an optional challenge to write from the objects’ perspective.

Night Sky received the titles:

This Thin Veneer
Where the Ice is Thinnest

Our optional challenge was:

Quiet/Loud

We went with Where the Ice is Thinnest, but also worked This Thin Veneer into the lyrics. You be the judge of whether we pulled off quiet/loud.

Sorry to have taken to long to post. My title received was "Red Wave" and I chose the optional challenge alternate tuning. I used DADGAD.

Those titles/challenges were from me and Sally! Well done, I dig it. Really like the intro/outro riff. Also, when we came up with the "old timey pop" challenge, our conception was quite broad. The Night Sky judging panel collectively deems the challenge a success.

Hi everyone,

Sometimes life throws you an anvil. Or three. I apologize for my lateness in posting, and I'm glad you all were able to rally and share your results so far.

Here's the full roster:

optional challenges: Orchestral Instruments or Alternate Tuning.

Brown Word and the Big Whine received these, and recorded "Red Wave."

98% Sure
and
A Man About a Horse

optional challenges: Lyrics feature at least two named characters, or Implied Rhyme/subvert the expectation of a rhyme

Vom Vorton Received these, and recorded "98 Percent" (it appears that he's omitted the word "Sure" from the title, based on the file name and how he presented it in the Discord... ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ ).

~~~~~~~~~
Vom Vorton submitted the following two titles:
Sinister Hypnotist
and
Beach Coma
Optional challenge: Repeating riff over changing chords
Lichen Throat received these and recorded two versions of "Beach Coma." (here's the bluegrass version)
~~~~~~~~~~~

Lichen Throat submitted the following two titles:

Next-to-Last National Bank
and

Hot Pink Halo received these and recorded "Saguaro." She would also like to note that, lacking an optional challenge, she wrote her song using her own challenge, "Borrow/build your bassline from the melody of a Kylie Minogue song."

~~~~~~~~
Hot Pink Halo submitted the following two titles:
Circle Work
and
Bring a Plate
Optional challenge: Borrow/build your bassline from the melody of a Kylie Minogue song.
and
~~~~~~~

Nick Soma submitted the following two titles:

Evidence Machine
and
A Darker Kind of Light

Optional challenges: Electricronic Instruments & Vocals Only, and 7/4 Time.

My Imagination

Optional challenge: Use the idea of time changing in your music and/or lyric

Owl received these, and recorded "Omens."

~~~~~~~~
Out of twelve participants, only one failed to come through so far. My unfortunate performance as sidefightmaster notwithstanding, that makes this our most successful Circle of Titles ever! Thanks to everyone for participating, and for bearing with my disappearance.
Reviews to come!
Considering the title-giver and the fact that dinosaurs are fundamentally baritones, I think Dino Death Dance begs for a Morphine tribute treatment. Making no promises, I’ll see what I can do.
I didn't anticipate that it would be TWO MORE YEARS before I'd be ready to share the studio version of my song, but what can I say? It's been a long road. Hopefully the wait has been worth it!
As promised, here is the studio version of "Here Today," complete with hand claps. https://drive.google.com/file/d/1Y6Ah67 ... drive_link Thanks again to Brown Word for providing the title and challenge!
"Here Today" will be included on my next LP, The Camouflage Kid, to be released on February 29th, 2024. Consider this a special sneak preview. 8-)
