The Song Fight Bulletin Board

And I don't want to turn this thread into an "I got screwed..." thread, it just seemed like an opportunity to, ummm, remind somebody of something...

However, since it got brought up... what I would really like... I did a song for the "Brown Boxes" fight, which turned out as a pretty awful performance of a song that I thought had some possibility, but didn't deserve the one vote it got... I played with it a little bit for the "Cover Thyself" cover fight, but didn't get the new version finished.

I'd be thrilled if somebody could give it a listen, figure out how to make it work better, and record a version... feel free to change lyrics (a clue to where I think it went wrong: I had recorded the song, then made some fairly major lyric changes in the lead vocal but never got around to making changes in the "echo" vocals, so some of them don't entirely connect), arrangement, instrumentation, whatever.

I realize that GoM is supposed to be about covering released stuff, but I don't even remember what I asked for last time...

We should start a "If you wanna be really nice, then do this..." thread. Then people can list songs that they'd like done along with an explanation for why they deserve a cover/rework/remix of the song. Kind of a "Here have a present" thread.

Useful tip for those who have yet to pick their songs: a neat way to determine the coverability of a given song is to imagine it being sung by Marcus Kellis.

And can I remind everyone when they're choosing songs, if you can, mp3 links to the originals increases chances of coveringness. really, it was amazing both last year and the year before how many songs that you think 'they'll know this one' are actually obscure to just about everyone else!

"In the City" was by the guy who did the score for the Warriors and Jim Walsh (I think that's the name, I wasn't really paying attention). Once again the Eagles are proven to be the kings of covering other people's songs.

THE LONG RUN (1979)

Joe Walsh was a member of the Eagles at the time of writing this and the Eagles Album "The Long Run" was the first commercial release of this title. Although it appeared in the movie it was never released by Joe or anyone else before the Eagles.
