Been stuck in the 60s lately.
I've been diggin The Who's "Magic Bus" rarities collection, which includes Pictures of Lily, Bucket T, and Run Run Run, all insanely good.

Also, I just got a Freddie and the Dreamers best of CD since I can't find any actual albums around.

Brian Wilson-Smile ---WOW, this album bleweth my mind. Such cool. Anyone know if this is getting radio play or anything?

They Might Be Giants' John Flansburg-"People are Wrong!"--This is the music from the play that Flans did the music for. Its pretty clever and entertaining. I like it. I really wish I could go see the show. But unfortunately it lies anchored in the unattainable locale of New York.

Joe Jackson-Night and Day II-A "sequel" to Night and Day(one of my favorite albums ever) which fulfilled what I wanted in most respects. I like it, it takes a few listens but it really grows on you.

The Spinto Band's Brown Boxes, based on their Carol Cleveland Sings SF submission. This is a more robust version. Saw them live on Wednesday night in NYC. Fun group of kids!

I've been listening to "Experimental Jet Set, Trash, and No Star" by Sonic Youth a lot lately. Best bargain ever, picked it up used for six bucks at a used book store.

Wu-Tang: Enter the 36 Chambers. I wish I was as craaaazy as ODB, but I'm too scared of consequences...

a bunch of crap i'm listening to now:

The Postal Service - Give Up
Just heard this for the first time today... hasn't fully sunk in yet.

Folk Implosion - One Part Lullaby
I don't think this album got very good reviews (it is much better produced than their earlier stuff which maybe some fans didn't like) but it has some really good songs on it.

The Helio Sequence - Young Effectuals
At the core of this album is a lot of sequenced synth stuff but somehow it manages to kick serious ass.

My favorite album of last year.

On a side note, anyone who has not picked up stateshirt's "Don't Die" is seriously missing out!

ok, how about something I want to listen to right now, but I can't find a link or anything, even the sample on the record label's site is broken...grrrrr...

Can anyone post a snippet of a band called Johnny Truant, album "Repurcussions of a Badly Planned Suicide"...

I'm dying to hear what this is like....

Thanks!

Listening to BW's Smile. Wow! I wasn't sure what to expect, but it's incredibly fun and interesting.

I'm amazed at how his voice has such a era-anchored quality to it, yet it's timeless at the same time.

Highly recommend this to anyone whoever enjoyed late 60's psych-pop.

I hear Atom Heart Mother in there somewhere...but so much more too...

Brilliant. I will now have to go and buy Pet Sounds. I may, in fact, be the only musician who does not own that.

Not for long...

I'm STILL listening to Modest Mouse. It's been months, and I'm still not sick of it. It's now ahead of Odelay as best album of all time, but behind Dark Side of the Moon and Blue. But barely.

I hope you say "The Moon & Antarctica"...I think it's their best. It's absolutely beautiful. I like all of the rest too, though.

also, I'm currently listening to "Fashion Nugget" by Cake. I usually dig this album out once a year or so and everytime I do I'm reminded of how good it is and vow to listen to it more often. Maybe this time the promise will stick.

Have you heard Pressure Chief? Also good, though my favorite Cake album is Comfort Eagle still.

Modest Mouse was definitely the best album of the year in my book, until Tom Waits came along.

Unrelated note: Has anyone heard the new Leonard Cohen that came out today? I went to the store to buy it, and they didn't have it, thus disappointing me.

Good News for People Who Love Bad News

Sorry Heidi ;)

I really like TMAA too though, just not as much as GNFPWLBN (damn it's long even when you abbreviate it).
