my sister asked for a guitar when she was... i don't know, fourteen or something. she instantly gave it up, then a few years later (when i was 13-14) i picked it up. one day i thought about the phenomenon of people playing songs with the same name as the band/musician, specifically bo diddley's "bo diddley," and then i wrote a song called "marcus kellis." that was i think the first thing i ever writ. started songfighting with "straw man" in march `03. back in the days of dumbrella. then later were the days of the chat room where i met spud and blue and future boy and fluffy. oh, life. anyway no formal training, just banging chords out of a guitar and a piano. the other two dudes in my band are both composition majors, the one being ed. as well (and saxophone, but playing keyboard; the other's vocal performance, but he plays guitar in the band while i sing).

Grade 7: learned sax for band camp
Grade 8: stole school's bass cuz it looked cool
College: jazz theory diploma
4 bands, 1 record deal, and lots of beer later,
quit the music scene to make actual money in the oilfield.

age 4: receive Bradley half size strat. Learn whatever Motorhead or black sabbath I can figure out over the next bunch of years.

age 12? 13? Black & white crackle "Starforce" jackson style strat machine. Also, "Master of Puppets" on cassette, as well as the tab book. Get busy.

um...

to be continued?

That was the first band I was in, Quantative Experimental, which broke up without ever performing and then reformed with most members some months later as Coathanger Coathanger ....
Coathanger Coathanger is a great band name.

but it needs some "!"s
Coathanger! Coathanger!
