Is there any way Chris de Burgh's "The Lady In Red" fits into this category? If so, count me in as I've wanted to cover that for years for some strange reason. Otherwise, I will have to do some digging around as I do find the idea intriguing.

Because homo makes everything taste better.
You know, a bit like ketchup.
For want of a slightly less icky metaphor.

I think we should start a band called "Adventures In No-Fi"

No. Tull is not viable. Yes I know they were in the show. But I don't think it was trying to make an argument for Tull (the band, not the agriculturalist) as Smooth. I think they just wanted to dress up in loose shirts and talk in faux shakespeare, while playing a flute.
Duly noted.

Is it safe to assume that those involved in this fight should only cover bands that are highlighted in the episodes? Or are you open to the smooth genre as a whole? This could be very confusing to folks who haven't seen said episodes.
Moboid has provided an accurate list of the artists that are featured.
Here are a few more bands that are mentioned..but are only sometimes smooth...
Chicago
Van Halen
Journey
Michael Jackson
Jethro Tull
I think that about covers it. Stay smooth.

I think it's the smooth genre hence why I asked if I could cover 10cc. Heather said yes (for which I am grateful) but no to Tull who are in the series. S it is the smooth/yacht rock genre that is important. Unless I am mistaken which wouldnt be the first time today

Definitely open to the genre as a whole. I didn't want to leave out the possibility that some other bands/songs are very Smooth but were not (yet) included in the show. I expect people to familiarize themselves with the Yacht Rock genre in whatever manner they see fit*, and then make appropriate suggestions based on that.
What do you guys think of that plan?
* eg, methods could include
- watching the epsiodes, repeatedly
- thoroughly browsing wikip and then downloading the songs on itunes
- being born between 1950 and 1970
- having parents born in said years

what about.........
crosby, stills, and nash
-from our favorite wikiwhatchamacallit about "daylight again"
"As the first album by the band in the video age, such were filmed to accompany the two lead singles, "Southern Cross," featuring the band and shots of one of their favorite metaphors, a sailing vessel, receiving a fair amount of rotation on MTV in 1982 and 1983."
dan fogelberg
bruce hornsby
glenn frey
don henley
phil collins
i definitely think steve winwood should be allowed, if it's from arc of a diver.

"Reminiscing" for sure, but i'm on the fence about Air Supply.... i leave it to the board's opinion. They might be too-far-post-yacht-rock, stylistically...

Uh-oh. I probably should back off here then. (Maybe you could let me throw some background vocals on there?)

My random thoughts and 2 cents worth:
I'm worried "Danny's Song" although by one of the qualifying artists is actually from before the genre started, but I'll leave it up to you guys.
Jack you nailed it. I couldn't remember the name of the song but the first thing I thought about when I came across the "Yacht Rock" phenomenom, (thanks to Glenn's You Tube site BTW) was the CSN video. I was very surprised it hasn't been included in any of the 10 episodes I've watched. Maybe out of respect. But then again, I was surprised that Steely Dan is included because I wouldn't put them in this classification myself. They certainly are 'smooth" but damn, they're also extremely talented. Who uses a 13th chord every other verse besides them?
Yeah! I was born in 1962. I qualify!
I think the Henley and Frey catalogue should be excluded because we already did an Eagles sidefight and they got their asses kicked by Becker and Fagen in the series anyhow.
Fogleberg yes, Hornsby and Collins no.
At some point Moboid needs to lay down the letter of the law and take control of this project the way that Niveous did with Nur Ein. I personally don't care if it's a strictly boxed in set of rules or loosley interpreted set of guidelines, but clarification needs to happen.
So Moboid, grab the reins and steer this thing.

Ooh, if Chicago counts, then I totally call You're The Inspiration. They are every bit as smooth as Charcago will not be.

I don't know what this Yacht program is or was, but I've copied the list of artists that was posted somewhere above, had a long chat with 'Terry' (my postman) and he reckons I should have a stab at Black Friday - by Steely Dan apparently!?!
Which I will endeavour to do... does anybody know how it goes????
