Lunkhead wrote:I think the relationships between the characters weren't that similar to the F4. Ben Grimm wasn't related to anyone in the group by blood or law, and Johnny Storm was a lot younger than the rest of them. Each person in the group seemed to have their own tensions with everyone else, more so than in the Incredibles I think.
I think the family unit / family of superheroes dynamics of the film definitely takes its slant from Fantastic Four, or at least the period of Marvel 60s Superheroes that prime FF represents. And yes, you could say there's a stretchy one, a strong one, a force-fieldy one, and so on. But that's kind of the point, surely?

But rips off? Hardly, Orgreasy. By that argument you could say it rips off just about any superhero, just because it has superheroes in it.

The combination of invisibilty power and force-field power is completely taken from the Fantastic Four. But it's not that big a deal. If you notice, Violet seems to use them as two completely separate powers, but the F4 counterpart's force field was itself what made things invisible. At least, I think that's how it worked.

Anyways, I just saw this today, and I have to say the scene where Elastigirl is in the compound, stuck in the sliding doors? Only the best fight scene ever.

It's an A+ for a family/children's film, but I gave it a B+ on its merits otherwise. I dunno, the villain was just so flat and boring and unsympathetic and there were some plotholes related to that and it bothered me. Gorgeous film to look at, though.

I find it difficult to accuse anything from a movie that parodies superhero culture "flat" or "boring." How many Batman or James Bond villains aren't just that?

Any further insight into Syndrome's psyche would have missed the point entirely.

Southern hemisphere catching up - I finally saw this movie on the weekend. Wonerful stuff - as others have mentioned, this is a real step up in the script department for this type of movie.

I suspect little kids may find the Shreks or the Toy Storys funnier, but this is a damn fine movie all the same.

All I have to say is congrats to a well earned Oscar for the Sound Edit. Definitely deserved it. I might have to buy the DVD.
