Wonk, I am late again
Can I still be an Austronaut?
Lyrics:
So what? I've got a phobia
and triple-strength myopia
I'm colourblind in both my eyes
but haven't we all run a few "grey" lights
Just because I'm a little messed up
Is that the reason I don't make the cut
Just because I'm a little messed up
I want in so bad, isn't that enough?
They say it's my irrational fear of heights
that kept me from this job
My poor eyes and my chilling frights
Can I still be an Austronaut?

I was busy tonight. I was hoping to do most of these, but maybe I'll challenge myself to do this one in another hour and a half, just so it's fair.
That's what I like to hear!!! I'm loving this a lot, especially the chorus. Keep mixing up the styles, since you seem to be good at a lot of different ones.Plat wrote:Can I still be an astronaut? by The Cow Exchange

Thanks JR! I'll see what I can do. At this rate I'll get out of the rut sooner or later.

Jolly Roger - Can I Still Be An Astronaut
Okay, so I guess this isn't quite the way to be, but since I found out the title at 9:15ish, I figured I'd finish one at 10:45. Sounds good, right? It's not my best, especially the singing, but I just felt that I had to do it, especially for the recorder.

Way too late for the deadline, but here's my Can I Still Be an Astronaut?. I got home a little bit late, but the first attempt with electrics and such was a trainwreck in the making. So, I bailed and came back to do the acoustic guitar and vocal version.

Lyrics thus far...
Interpret This Dream (The BeWells)
My fingers reaching out to hold, but I find it's holding me
It feels as though I'm trapped within a word I cannot speak
See myself through a window as I'm peering back inside
Tucking blankets in my pocket finding a place to hide
All this spatial disorientation
Leaving me with this awkward sensation
That somehow I must be dreaming
While I know I'm not asleep
Seems everything inside is out and upside's looking down
The grass is walking over me planting clouds in the ground
This speck of dust here in my hand fills out the sky above
Can anyone interpret this dream, could it be this is love
(chorus)
Can it be that this is real
'Cause if I'm not dreaming it must be love
Can I Still Be An Astronaut? (The BeWells)
Can I still be an astronaut if the stars fall from the sky?
Can I still be a cowboy without a horse to ride?
Can I still be a singer if I haven't got a song to sing?
Can I still be me if you're no longer by my side?
Can I still be a painter if the whole world goes blind?
Can I still be a lawyer if no one commits a crime?
Can I still be a doctor if they cure every disease?
Can I still be happy if you've left for good this time?
Can I still be a clown if nobody likes to laugh?
Can I still be a banker if everyone stopped using cash?
Can I still be a prophet if this world has reached its end?
Can I still be whole when my heart is ripped in half?
(repeat first verse)

By the way, I listened to my song, and the singing is horrendous. I definitely want to work on this one more though.
Can I still Be An Astronaut - By Jolly Roger
I'll admit I let the system fall in disrepair
I'll admit I did not do my job when I was there
But Jenkins got to do the particle accelerator
And all I got to do was astronaut defribulator
I've changed my ways
And I've learned from my mistakes
Please defend my case
And let me go to space
Cause all that I'm asking
Is can I still be an astronaut
Can I still be an astronaut?
I'll admit that I've made more mistakes than the Pope
I'll admit that I forgot that I should hold that rope
But Johnson gets to see a universe of scenery
And that's more than you and I will ever get to see.
I've changed my ways
And I've learned from my mistakes
Please defend my case
And let me go to space
Cause all that I'm asking
Is can I still be an astronaut

I keep writing lyrics for these the day after they're due. I'm thinking that this weekend (which is full of work, a dance, and a visit to the Martin guitar factory) I'm gonna record all of these lyrics that I've got floating about. So it'll be way late, but I will have songs eventually.
In the mean time, these songs are totally great. Good job, guys!

Surprise Ending by The Cow Exchange
it was tempting to assume
that your choice perfume
was tried and infallible
but when you held a match for those you missed
we learned the essence of your wrists
was "eu de flammable"
it had you running in a circuit
fluttering your arms
as flakes of epidermis
were rupturing, flames covering, up your arm and to your hair
what a surprise ending
can i have your lungs?
it sucks to see you blemished
can i have your old toaster?
and your old poster of avril lavigne
and your 40" plasma TV?
cuz we both know it's not what you need
when you're spread in tiny pieces across the sea

Jolly Roger - Surprise Ending
Wasted too much time on guitar tracks which didn't sound great in the end, so for the solo I used kazoo. Love that thing.

Rewriting history, and adding links:
Wow, that's a really cool improvisation from the sample. I love how the tempo flows up and down, and phrases start over midway. Thanks for sharing that!wormsweater wrote:I have that (Yamaha DJX) keyboard! I've made a variation on that piano sample from the chorus and decomposed it into something pretty nice.
