I Confess

I finished a rough demo of the song I wrote to the Otalgia music. It is called I Confess and you can hear it at
http://www.nerdcoresongs.com/iconfess.htm
Let me know any comments of suggestions you have (other than that I need vocal lessons, which is obvious).

Excuse me?

Ok, maybe I should revise my statement to say that the vast majority of rap / hip-hop songs don't use sampling, like from other songs you can recognize. Some of the basic beats (like the ones I use) may be looped samples from other songs, but they are unrecognizable and are not like "Can't Touch This by MC Hammer" which was based on "Superfreak" by Rick James, or "Ice Ice Baby" by Vanilla Ice which was based on "Under Pressure" by David Bowie and Queen.

Nowadays people can't afford to assemble their rap/hip-hop songs from recognizable samples because they have to license them and pay royalties. No more albums full of free unlicensed samples like "Paul's Boutique" by the Beastie Boys, sadly...
Anyway, your song's OK. Metal vocals are hard to pull off. I think your voice is better suited for rap, but I've only heard a couple of your songs.

Yes, I totally agree. My voice is not suited to any type of song other than rap, but since I play no instruments and don't know any musicians, I don't usually get a chance to write a real rock song (this was my first one). So, when your opportunity came up, I decided to give it a try.

Don't worry about it Lunk. I just don't really like rap. Not a big problem though, as long as we finish it in the end as a true Otalgia song.

Cool. It's going to be a few days before I can work on it any more, as we have a guest visiting and our music room is also our guest room.

The Otalgia song kicks. Dig it. Why does that riff make me nod my head so? Don't know. It just does.
The "nerdcore" vox linked to in this thread really don't come close to doing it justice, in my opinion. (Yes, I know Lunkhead and JR had other plans when they wrote it.)
And as for the rappin, Impulse, I strongly recommend you learn how to make your own music/beats yourself. I guarantee—GUARANTEE—that you'll enjoy it more/feel better about the tunes you make if you write every aspect yourself.
You'll never want to sample again.

Here's a version with Starfinger's vocals and a guitar solo after the bridge:

I'm open to making other mixes with different vocalists if people want. Also, Jolly Roger and Starfinger, if you're interested there is some "back catalog" work that could use some real drums ("Hit By A Train") and some vocals (an unfinished "Ninja Gang").

The verse was good, but you def. got me when you hit the chorus. Nice. I like to think this would have won. Would have got my vote. That bridge is pretty Tenacious D—who I saw in Toronto.
Fucking fantastic solo—this is really solid. Great work guys. I kind of wish the vocals came in even crazier after the solo—they've got a real manic quality you could have run with. But this is great stuff.

Thanks everybody! Maybe we can get something into a fight some time soon with this lineup. I'm extremely grateful to Ken, Jolly Roger, and Starfinger for their participation, they made it awesome. Starfinger and JR, I'll be PM'ing you in a few days with links to songs that could use some of your magic if you're interested. I had some lyrics for "Ninja Gang", but not a complete song's worth, so I may need to recruit some help finishing them, as well.

Starfinger just sent me the partially finished version, and I liked it. Now I hear this. Bloody fantastic. I definitely am honored to have taken part in this, and will definitely partake in any future Otalgia. Thanks for the experience, lads.

That sounds great! I opologise Lunk, I've had a house full of sick people for the last several day and I didn't feel good about screaming into a mic. But I have been singing to it while driving and have it down the way I like it. Starfinger pretty much did it the way I did. I LOVE Starfingers chorus!!!
Maybe if I get you something on Sunday, we can mix the two.
It can be the "unofficial" Pink Ribbon song deemed as being so good, that you didn't want to enter it in all fairness to the other entries.

So, Lunk. I'm not sure if you got my 'Hit By a Train' drum tracks. Did you or did you not? I sent them like half a week ago. Not impatient, but just wondering.

Yeah, I got them, thanks! I haven't had a chance to work with them at all, though. I've been busy with the whole birthday thing last week and the aftermath of that and various other issues. I'll let you know when I finally have time to work on them. Thanks again for the tracks!

Wow.. that otaglia collab pink ribbon song frickin' rocks guys. I don't normally think of starfinger's vocal style in that way, but damn he pulled it off great. Great music parts too from everyone.
I totally would've voted for this one too... more otaglia!
