I liked Shael's song, it had a good hook and was catchy. I didn't mean to imply that I think he only won because of a friend flood. I hope he comes back, and isn't just another SongFight! one-hit wonder.

This may be the most naive thing I've ever read. C'mon dude, there is no way to quantify you're presumption.

I've been agreeing with a lot of your posts lately but this is just silly.

Here's some data for you to crunch. There were a 119 votes talled in this week's fight. 31 participants in the fight and 32 people voting in this poll. And 20 something full and partial reviews. Of those I think I counted 14 reviews for myself.

What's my point? Well...

1) There's lot's of ways to interpret raw data but to me it's much more likely that a lot more people visit the front page, vote for their friend, leave, and never listen to song fucking one than it is that they "clicked vote, presumably after listening to some (and often all) of the songs in the fight".

2) As Blue said, a lot of people vote for themselves, and I obvously am not one of them.

3) I still think telling people how you voted or are going to vote before the end of actual polling effects how people actually vote. That's why I don't read reviews before I do my own and I usually won't say who I'm inclined to vote for in the review discussion thread. I just think people are more like cattle than they want to admit and will go in the same direction as the rest of the cattle.

4) Last comment aside, the voting in this poll appears to reflect my 2nd statement more than anything else. Go figure. A lot of people thought their song was the best one in the fight.

While that's possible, and probably accounts for some front-page votes, it seems to me that the simpler hypothesis is that a lot of people just don't bother with the boards, and especially with stuff like this. Hell, I don't read the majority of what's posted here. There are some very important walls that need to be stared at, and that commands too much of my time.
A lot of people thought their song was the best one in the fight.
A lot of people are clearly deluded, but I like this situation. It's better than "I think my song sucked but I entered it anyway."

Well, maybe it really isn't any better. That's why I only listen to songs that blue says are good. Saves me a lot of time and disappointment.

When Octothorpe first entered, we didn't even realize there was a board. I find BZL's scenario of more front-pagers than boarders to be quite believable.

So there was just a sign that pointed to a tin can and said, "sing in to here"?

So. Duh. How about moving the community to a place that is privately owned by the community and then administer the community democratically? Duh. Or is that over your head?

I kind of want to do another poll, for the new fight, but in a way that people can't view the results in advance, at least not until after they've voted. Anybody know of any good free Web poll providers who'll let you have 20+ options? I searched for "free polls" and none of the first page results fit the bill.

this one was fine - i don't think it'll have the same impact if it's hosted elsewhere.

you can put something up on b-side if you can find a good script, tho.

Small communities like this one do not need polls. You just post your vote. That way all votes and voters are verified. It's not secret but it is the most reliable.

I thought the main idea was to have a vote by only SF forum members. How do you use songfight.net forum authentication on a script hosted elsewhere. Thats it ! A songfight LDAP server so everyone can build satalite sites using SF board member authintication. Get to work on that ... someone.
...and multiple fights and a prize for each fight and a ranking system and 2 fights a week - got I love hayfever medicine........

The vote is open to the public you stoopid moron because the fucking public is the object of this thing. You want to reach out to your fans and get some blowjobs.

That is NOT democracy. Democracy is all of the members joining together and writing a Statement of Purpose, drafting a simple Constitution that defines what a Member is, what a Vote is, what Officers shall be elected, when Elections are to be held, what are the Responsibilities of Officers and Members, etc.

Then the members develop programs that promote the goddanm fucking purpose. You shitball. Then the program is administered by a rotation of assigned roles you twats!

Democracy means taking turns you stoopid fucking retards! It also means great advancement for the community. It means self-moderation, self-propagation and self-preservation for the community for generations of members to come.

You fucking twits, democracy means that your stoopid ass "community" will exist in 50 years. You have absolutely no way to pass this on in a sensible manner. You can't vote anyone in because you don't have a democratic form that outlines the duties of President, Archivist and Treasurere. You are just fucking yourselves in the ass. You have no way to improve because you will not allow change of administration. That is why you are the biggest fucktwats along with everyone else on the web.

So just shut the fuck up!

I'm actually surprised as hell that someopne has to tell you this. You didn't learn this in the 7th grade?

This is not the same Oust The Mods that we used to know and not love. Complete sentences, direct insults, curse words... I think someone forgot to not tell people his password! Or maybe all those years of frustration have finally caused his already feeble mind to collapse under its own weight.

I think that voting should only be open to those who are competing with eachother.

That way you can verify votes easily and the review verifies that the voter listened to the song.

This whole Songfight thing was a great idea that just never went anywhere.

It's just a bullshit hobby site that ends with a beerbash somewhere. It's really hicksville.

You have no program. Not a good program for a member to jump in and get to developing themselves. People come here to write songs and they end up becoming expert reviewers. It's retarded. You're retarded. How many times have people complained and got the old "fuck you" from the top and yet I always here from a few of you about how this system is the best.

I say it sucks and that's the reason you have never got me into it. But I guess there are loads of dummies in this world. The whole thing seems to hinge upon the fact that you have all met eachother and celebrated the fact that you posted on a message board together.

You're next door neighbor is posting on a message board right now. why would anyone fly to a distant city to meet any of you?

The community should be for the web, it should be owned and administered by those who use it. I am not participating in a community that is stolen from me.

What is owned here? The content? Who provides the content? Who owns it? The people who use it, own it.

These technocrats have really pulled the wool over people's eyes, though.

I wondered how long it was going to be before someone posted to the boards whose comments I would simply scroll past without reading. The answer: this long.
