fuck off?
Now, I can speculate on why the first thing you think of when I try to clarify how I feel is sucking someone off, but I think this pretty much sums it up:

Mutt n'Jeff.
Yep. Perfectly clear now.

Good. Case closed. I find on behalf of the defendants. The plaintiff (OTM) can pay his fine on his way out.Oust The Mods wrote:No, Your Honor!Dan-O from Five-O wrote:Fucking Van Halen fan.

For the record:
1) Narbotic's original SongFight! was just for his friends. Entirely exclusive. The text "SongFight! is currently running on an open format. Anyone is permitted to enter" or something like that was on the main page when I first saw it. It remained there for a long time (even after the change to .org, if I recall). The central idea of SongFight! is not inherently democratic or inclusive.
2) When Narbotic let the .com site hang for a long time between fights, lots of people participated in a sidefight. I remember suggesting we call it "MeanTime", which Spud adapted to "MeanWhile". Spud, just another songfighter at the time, offered to host the thing since he had a server and some website skills. After a while, Narbotic was asked if he'd mind if the "MeanWhile" page turned into a "SongFight" page, and if he'd redirect songfight.com visitors to songfight.org. He consented. So the "community" did pick up the ball and take charge of itself.
3) After a bunch of fights, new rules, often suggested by people on the boards, were tried, most notably letting the winner write the title of the next fight. The style and flavor of the game was constantly influenced by the board discussions. Since then we've seen multiple parallel fights, theme fights, and optional challenges. All ideas bounced around on the boards before, during, and after their implementation. So the participants did and do have a role in structuring the content.
4) When appearing on television ("Attack of the Show") to represent the site, JB and Spud were entirely inclusive. They gave heads up on the boards, posted the show's silly challenge title (20 minutes to write a song or something), posted our entries (14 of them, notably not including the one JB and Spud wrote and played for the show), and told the television audience what they and we had done. All above board. No misrepresentation, no gloating, no speaking for "the community". So the Mods are not power-hungry, spotlight-hogging, or self-aggrandizing.
It's simple-minded revisionism to say that Spud and JB (JB, by the way, while an active songfighter and frequent poster, was not central to "MeanWhile") took over the site. Those of us who were there had a hand. That Spud hosts the site and that he and JB provide content and board moderation* is convenient for those of us with no inclination or skills to maintain such a large archive. But they are far from exclusive, especially given the site's beginnings.
*I'm just guessing at the division of labor, actually.

...and even when you put in a ridiculous amount of work for no personal gain you still get people trying to shit on you.
I'd like to express my deep personal thanks for all that you've allowed me to do in the last year and a bit Spud. Considering the impact that SF has had on my life (including my first ever international sale) I don't think I say that often enough.
Still waiting for the 'Cavity search' option.
(not that it matters, my browser never lets me vote on these things anyway, hmmmm)
I don't think Ousts parents liked it very much, poor thing.

Enough already.
I'll use my 3rd post to say, Oust is a twat. One hundred and some odd posts, and this basically sums up his contribution.
Oh yeah, and he said this almost a year ago. Monday, June 26th to be exact.I've been complaining for 3 1/2 years now.
Draw your own conclusions. The current system keeps anybody with any sense out of your forums.
It keeps those who have the highest standards out.

You should add Oust the Mods to your signature.
