American football was my favorite sport growing up, but in my old age I find myself more unattracted to the brutality.

Actually, Rugby Leage is very, very similar to American Football - the main difference being you're not allowed to pass the ball forward in RL. Rugby Union is far more complex - and even I don't pretend to understand all the rules, even though I played it for over 10 years.

Cricket's rules are very simple - but it has strange zen-like quality that distances it from other sports. Much of it's appeal comes less from the game itself and more from sitting in the sun drinking beer

Monday......8-1 over Sweden.

Tuesday...predicition...5-3 over Germany. (Them Germans can be pesky).


USA:

5-4 over Russia.
6-4 over Switzerland.

RUSSIA:
loss to the USA and a 4-1 victory over the Czech republic...


Will Canada win the Gold, or will they storm through the tourney only to lose in the final for the fourth time in a row?

Not being much of a sports person, when I'm watching Australian Rules Football, my favorite parts tend to be the two-handed kung-fu chop followed by the disco fingers pointing action of the guys in the big hats down at each of the goalposts.

Now sumo wrestling... that's poetry in motion. Mushashimaru is/was the man.

I'm currently enjoying the world darts championship. It's nice to know that fat blokes who hang around in pubs all day can reach the pinnacle of a sport that gets televised at prime time on a country's top sports channel.

I would like to go and see an egg chasing game down at Twickenham with some cheerleaders thrown in, that would make it a vastly superior spectacle all round. And perhaps even a wardrobe malfunction to spice things up further.

And as for 0-0 draws, better than a ridiculous 112-86 scoreline where someone scores every two seconds!! A goaless draw makes you appreciate them just that little bit more. However, I do like MLS when commentators get really excited about a throw-in. And they talk about dee-fence rather than defence. Fantastic stuff.

Bring on the Ashes (aka Aus play Eng at cricket for about fifty days and beat them before lunch on the first day)...

In the small Pacific island nation of Kiribati - darts is virtually the national sport. They would televise it if they had television.

Yes - bring on the Ashes. We've just flogged NZ and the Paki's badly, and beat India at home a few months ago. Much as I hate to admit it - England is probably the only team in the world that could give us a decent game at the moment.

I'm very dissapointed in the Canadian Junior hockey team. I know they breezed through the first round 7-3, 8-0, 9-0 and 8-1... but I was really hoping for a ten goal game....how could they let Finland score?


Now I know also that not many know or care about the World Junior Hockey tourney, but it's a pretty big deal in Canada...for those into hockey. And I'm here to say... we'z kickin azz.

I wait all winter (it's winter here), the NRL season opens this weekend and Aussie Rules starts at the end of the month. And Fox Sports tells me this:

NO RUGBY, RUGBY LEAGUE OR AUSSIE RULES BROADCASTS ARE SCHEDULED FOR 2006

What the hell? Isn't Rupert Murdoch Australian? Why is he denying me the chance to watch his home sports, just because I live about a million miles away?

Oh well, at least Arsenal is through in the Champions League, and Chelsea is not, haha!

I know it's the off-season, but I'd take Matt Hasselbeck over everyone else mentioned. And Seattle signed Alexander for another 8 years. So that puts us at the Super Bowl every year until, what, 2013?

I'm not being defensive (couldn't care less about the World Baseball Classic), but I find it a little laughable that some people in the media are finding this upset comparable to the miracle on ice.

Man, summer has come quick. I love Formula One. So wonderful. Fisichella has always been my favourite, despite his disposition to being in the top three for a few dozen laps then spinning out a lap before the finish.

(F1 is possibly the only sport I know anything about. )
